Dead Buttons

My un-root-ed Droid Maxx ... never dropped ... never got wet ... always carried in a dedicated pocket ... looks like it just came out of the box.

I was in Staples ...my phone rang ... I answered it and it powered off. Pretty odd.

I powered it on and the three buttons on the screen are not illuminated and they are dead.

I did a reboot.
I went back to the factory launcher.
I did a reset.
I ran in safe mode.
I backed up all that I could onto my desktop workstation.
I removed and reinserted the SIM card.

The three buttons are still dead.

Next step is a Factory Data Reset ... if the problem is still there take it in for replacement ... have I overlooked anything?

I can't remember... are they capacitive buttons below the screen or buttons on-screen buttons? Based on what you're saying I feel like they are capacitive buttons.

Capacitive.

I think some hardware just decided to blow. I am just taking a breather before the Factory Data Reset to see if IO tried everything.

I assume it won't help but will prepare me for the turnover .

You said they aren't lighting up anymore right? Unfortunately, that makes me think that it's probably a hardware problem. More than likely the connector for the row of buttons has shorted out or gone bad :( Although how that happened when you got a phone call escapes me unless there was some weird random short.

I think it will be shown to be hardware.

I'm not sure it was a real phone call. It rang. It showed the information on the last real call I had.

I tried to answer it and the screen was black.

I hit power on and it then booted.

There is no record of a call in the log.

All of this was probably something shorting out.

Sorry to hear it, Thom. No, I can't think of anything else.

Ok, for once I see the advantage of on-screen buttons...

Well, I *think* that's good news. I always hate it, though, when there's an unexplained problem like that.

So I did the Factory Data Reset and the buttons were then back to normal.

I am still trying to get my head around that.

You reset the power sequencing which occurs before the krait boots up.
