Root NexTheme ESE81 R3 Release (4/21/10) - New Goodies!

I want to thank you Fabo!
I have been flashing these since the first one. I love the nextheme.
I'm using it now.
I have used nextheme for cynogen , test UD version and this one.

One problem persists for me at least. When some one sends me a short video ( mms ) it doesn't play. This goes for all of them.

Anyway I'm using your version it is very light and quick . Also I favor BB for it was my first Rom and its alwAys stable and smooth .

Manup is going to port everything he is doing for the Droid and update this theme so I guess the issue will be fixed soon .

Yeah, mines been reverted for a couple days too. I tried rethemeing it again with metamorph, but to no avail. I think there might have been an update or something that moved it over to the data partition, but I'm not for sure.

I'll try to figure this out when I get some free time.

interesting. mine is still the themed one. i wonder if the update is rolling out in batches and i just have not received it yet.

my market icon has reverted back to stock as well

came here to say this Rom is very very snappy and everything seems to be working flawlessly. my ONLY issue so far is when I close the browser and come back it has an error saying it doesn't have an internet connection when using WiFi. going to keep using this and any update for a while.

coming from using bb exclusively...

Rather odd thing I noticed...the App tray launcher icon (the 4 x 4 grid) gets changed as a result of your ROM Fab. Normally the icon is much clearer (i.e. the outline is much more defined). It becomes almost impossible to see when Helix (either 1 or 2, tried both) is added as a default system app.

Is this intentional?

Also...kind of a noobish question, but how does one go about uninstalling Helix2 from R3?

market changed for me too.. not too worried about switching it back at the moment.. as long as the phone works

This is quoted for truth... I don't care how quick or sexy a Rom is if the phones core functions do not work then its worthless. loving this Rom because it looks good and my phone works

I've just themed them with the NexTheme launcher files, so if they seem less clear than the default Helix Launcher, it's probably because the transparency is turned up.

As for removing Helix2, you can run the following code in terminal emulator:

Code:
su
enablescripts
mountsys
cd /system/app/
rm com.helixproject.launcher2.apk
unmountsys
sync

ignore the 'enablescripts' if you've already run it before

Thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying it.

No problem..

What would the launcher/app drawer look like with helix2 removed? I'm having some issues with helix/helix2 adjusting the text randomly so i only see the first couple of letters when launching the app drawer. It cannot be corrected unless I reboot the phone.. :(

Unless you deleted it, the ROM also comes with the regular Android launcher from 2.1 ESE81, albeit themed and expanded to 5 home screens. It is very smooth, though my usage is limited as I am a devout Helix1 user :)

Is there any way to change the transparency? Is that just something inherent to NexTheme that can't be changed?

Code:
su
enablescripts
mountsys
cd /system/app/
rm com.helixproject.launcher2.apk
unmountsys
sync
Is there a way to remove the default launcher too?

Thanks :D

Thanks Fab for this great ROM, my favorite one I've tried so far. My only issue I've found is in the messaging app when i changed the LED color in the notifications settings, the LED doesn't blink anymore, even when i change it back to the default green.

Fab, I'm currently running CM 5.0.6.2 and I'm LOVING the 5 column app drawer. Have you considered including this an any of your future iterations?

If you have photo editing skills, you can extract whatever you're trying to change (Launcher, framework-res, etc) from /system/ and modify the PNG files within them to what you like. Then just push them back and overwrite the old files. Me, I'm not so talented at that.

Remove default launcher:

Code:
su
enablescripts
mountsys
cd /system/app/
rm Launcher.apk
unmountsys
sync

Do you have your screen on? LED notifications only turn on with the screen off in 2.1. It's just the way it is.

Also, any chance you have the default Google Talk icon lying around? ;)

You can easily get that icon by extracting Talk.apk from any non-themed ROM (i.e. BB). Then you can pull Talk from this ROM, swap the icons, and repush it back. Note that the Talk notification is part of framework-res though, so if you want to change that, you'll have to pull the framework also.

The 3D one? I'm not sure ESE81 supports it. I do have the regular 2D launcher with 5 columns though, which I used for NexBeast (ESE53 based). I haven't tried it with ESE81, so I'm not sure if it's compatible.

just flashed this rom the other and i gotta say its pretty good. really snappy when swiping from screen to screen. however, my phone heats up way more than before and way faster. also battery life is not that great it seems. is everyone using the included kernel or something else?

Yeah I tried both screen on and off and it doesn't light. It seems it doesn't light up for mail either so I'm guessing it just isn't working for anything.

running great, snappy, incredibly responsive, looks amazing.

getting randon force close for android core app though... :-/

Did you do a clean install, or over an existing ROM?

If not, I would recommend a clean install with a wipe of DATA, CACHE, SYSTEM, and BOOT partitions.

I don't have JIT enabled. It seems to be far too unstable, IMO. We'll see if that changes after Froyo is released.

JIT is not enabled by default on this ROM, so regardless of whether you did a clean install or an install over another ROM, JIT should be off unless you pushed the required files and made the change to the build.prop file to enable it.

So to answer your question, yes. If you do a clean install, you'll have to manually enable JIT.

Personally, I haven't used JIT in over a month, and while the benchmarks sure have dropped, overall, I enjoy the stability much more, and I haven't really noticed a drop in performance in real world apps.
