Interesting MetroPCS stats

towers stay at their place just the antennas, cable connections, electronics get upgraded.
also each tower is not represented by a satellite in space.
 
How can I tell if I'm CDMA or GSM? I have a MetroPCS Huawei Ascend M860 that I got in the spring of 2011!

Also I don't understand here. My MetroPCS service was ALWAYS Excellent! Nobody, but NOBODY here in south jersey used T-Mobile cause their service REALLY S**KED! And I mean REALLY S**KED!

Is the the kind of service/signal I will be getting when the CDMA is terminated (assuming my M860 is CDMA based)? If so I see another/different carrier in my future!

I guess everything is money based (whooda thought) and MetroPCS CEO's were offered enough cash (just like a hooker) and bent over!

You guys have no idea how T-mobile is "HATED" in south Jersey. The ONLY reason that T-mobile had ANY presence at all is their flagship phone was the Blackberry when they(and T-mobile) debuted here in 2008! "Oooooo you got a Blackberry, I gotta have one!" Which meant you had T-Mobile like it or not. Well, when the Blackberry luster wore off,so did T-mobile's subs! People put up with the $h!TTy signal because of the Blackeberry! When bigger better smart phones started to appear, they dropped their Blackeberries like a rock along with T-mobile! Christ is there even ANY blackberries still being sold?

and now I gotta deal with T-mobile?

I'm surprised no one has posted this yet.

T-Mobile's efforts to transition customers from MetroPCS' aging CDMA network to its own GSM and LTE frequencies is going quite swimmingly. The company has been bragging that it's well ahead of schedule, and in some markets it's already begun repurposing the smaller carrier's spectrum to deliver faster Wideband LTE connections. Things are going so well, in fact, that it will begin shutting down the slower MetroPCS network this year, instead of waiting until 2015. The first three cities on the chopping block will be Boston, Philadelphia and Las Vegas. Though, considering its accelerated transition we wouldn't be surprised to see others join the list before the end of the year. Around 40 percent of MetroPCS users have already switched to phones that will work on T-Mobile's network, and the carrier plans to offer more aggressive upgrade options to push more customers over. Those that have yet to upgrade won't suffer a complete disruption of service, however, thanks to roaming agreements. The next step, of course, will be "refarming" that newly cleared spectrum to deliver even faster wireless speeds.

You have a CDMA device so T-Mobile just started in your life . I am near you and I had one of them m860 . I can say that I am so happy that it was good to me but that's because its a Tri band device . but u may start looking into a new gsm phone T-Mobile has beefed up gsm around here but if u looking for a gsm device get a cheap unlocked device so you can change Sims card if T-Mobile is junk you always have at&t . I know brightspot at target has a 50.00 unlimited and its T-Mobile and I know someone that uses it loves it jersey shore.

Dude, yes I DID see the first three posts. But if I don't know that my phone is CDMA and I did't know that CDMA is the old service, (all I know is I went with MetroPCS 3 years ago and the service has been STELLAR), How is it you give me a "DUDE" message with all that that implies?

You just told me it was CDMA, thank you, and nailzer cleared up the rest of the picture! thanks to both of you!

With the upgrades to GSM, will my carrier still be MetroPCS or T-Mobile?

Seems like somebody with a $h!tload of money decided to bail out T-Mobile by buying Metro's customer base!

The CDMA radio would roam on Sprint for voice and text and the LTE radio connects to tmobiles that will still be broadcasting metro lte's ID (311-660)
Like right now if you go to Chicago you roam on Sprint for talk and text but pick up Tmo LTE for data.

No, Metro isn't going away. Metro is just using T-Mobile's network for voice and data. There will still be Metro brick and mortar stores (or wood, or concrete or what ever building material they use in your neck of the woods :D ).

But I will still need to get a GSM "sim card" type cell phone correct? My CDMA M860 will be doa?

Yes, you will need to get a GSM phone; either buy one from Metro, or get yourself an unlocked one from somewhere else.

so after CDMA is finally shut off LTE for CDMA phones will go on without a hitch but will be roaming for talk and text?

That's probably just for the markets that are shutting down earlier than original so you'd probably stop getting roaming service if you're in one of those markets when the original shutdown date hits
 
One of the main reasons I switched to GSM earlier than I had planned to was because I was sick of my lg motion dropping 4G anywhere from 10 to 20 times a day.

This, in addition to the fact that 3 or 4 nights a week, my 4G would drop completely and I would be stuck on 1x until the next morning.

I know this was likely due to spectrum refarming and whatnot, but ever since I switched to GSM I have dropped 4G maybe one time in the past month, and only for a few seconds.
 
So I Purchased My SGS3 (CDMA) Phone Last year February and im hearing all this Speculation/rumors and seeing how my Phone is acting up the past week now what want to get straightened out is whats gonna go on with my phone,

So its gonna Roam to Sprint as TALK SMS 1X Dial-up and 4G LTE with T-Mobile even after 2015.

it would NOT render my phone useless like how NON-Digital TVs worked after a DTV upgrade..

Would MetroMobile offer any type of CDMA to GSM Headset Swap to existing CDMA Smart Phone Subscribers??
