Root [Boost Mobile] Can't Activate Boost on SPH-L710

djwell

Newbie
I bought a Boost SPH-L710 used and rooted it and installed Beanstalk 4.4.2 before I activated it. I went to activate it with my existing boost account and cannot get it to work. I have tried to flash back to a boost stock md7 md2 and mk5 an the android guy falls down and gives an error message that it was expecting 5 args and only got 4 and aborted. Can anyone help me get this back to a boost phone so it will activate? Thanks in advance.

How and what are you trying to flash? Which recovery are you using? I had the same problem when using Philz for wicked sensations and when I switched to Twrp if then worked fine. Have you tried this http://androidforums.com/boost-mobi...exed-deodexed-virgin-mobile-boost-mobile.html ?

On the newer versions of Philz, you have to uncheck the box that says "Don't Allow Old Update Binary" because his recovery is more up to date than the binaries used in ROMs based on TW/4.3. That is why you couldn't flash Wicked using Philz, or the stock/rooted MK5.

That could be it. I have the latest recovery from 03/02/2014. I couldn't find that setting "Don't Allow Old Update Binary". I looked at all the setting for PhilZ. Can you help me. Thanks.

I put it over to TWRP recovery, and got it to install all the zips. (ROM's, WiFi fix, etc.) When I rebooted, it has been on the samsung window for about 20 minutes. I'm going to try it again, but didn't know if I had done anything wrong? Thanks.

UPDATE: I've tried it several times Stock Odexed Stock Deodexed and nothing works. Any ideas?

Do a battery pull. It should never take that long to boot up.

Make sure you do a factory reset, wipe cache and Dalvik cache before flashing anything too.

Was just about to post the same thing about boot duration-if it takes longer than 30 seconds or so, unless in the process of enabling ART, it ain't going to magically happen.

Ok, so I went back to CWM recovery and unchecked the box and it installed!!! Finally. However, it still doesn't have anything related to boost, and it still won't activate. What now?

Open dialer, type ##72786# and then don't touch anything. Phone will reboot twice before settling down.

It did exactly as you said 2 reboots, but still does not activate. I gave it about 10 minutes. Is that long enough? There is a green check mark that says preparing network, but that has been there every time.

Do a battery pull and keep the battery out for a minute or so then try the same step that Struckn told you to do. After it has rebooted twice, let the phone sit for a few minutes then try to go in and do a profile update. Hopefully it will work after the profile update.

I don't know what else to tell you at this point, as I have zero experience with phones flashed from another carrier, except that you may have to bite the bullet and use Odin to push the most recent tar file for 4.3; I say bite the bullet because it will give you Knox and you will have to start over on the root process, but that isn't necessarily the end of the world.

Thanks. I don't mind starting over, but this is not a flashed over phone is it? The model number is that of an original boost phone and that was the way it was advertised on ebay. Could that be the problem? Does anyone have the link for that process to start over? Thanks again.

Sorry, I misread your original post. Starting over should be fine then. You will want to check download mode in that case, that way we can know whether or not you have Knox already. If you don't, things are a little bit easier; if you do, then not a big deal either, it just dictates which tar file can safely be used with Odin. In download mode, you will want to copy down and post here what the screen says, line for line.

If it is a Boost phone then you may have to call Boost and get them to walk you through a forced activation. Don't say anything to them about the phone being rooted or anything either. When I got my 2nd Prevail I couldn't get it to activate. I had to get with Boost and i had to go into the settings and manually change some things that the Boost rep told me to in order to get it working.

Just curious. Have you changed over your account to the S3's MEID # on the Boost website?

Have you tried the profile update too?

I have used the website and called too. The person I talked to didn't seem to tech advanced. Didn't mention anything about a forced activation. She did give me the ##72786# code. The profile update just says process already started. I really don't mind starting over, but I'm not sure how to do it. I had to send me S2 back for repair once and I put it back to factory settings, but I just followed a guide. Thanks again.

If you don't have Knox. .. just use the Kies Odin image... it will re flash almost every partition on the phone ( it will flash 12 partitions) back to stock MD7... gl
