Root [Virgin Mobile] No 3G when I flashed Unified CM11

FatalIll

Well-Known Member
I was on 2/17 d2spr nightly and decided to wipe EVERYTHING; data, system, sdcard, everything.
I loaded on cm11 3/14 nightly, PA gapps, dkp 2/26 kernel, optimized dalvik for cm11.
I noticed after turning off WiFi that my Mobile data wouldnt stay on 3g for more than a few seconds, and then go to 1x, really slow. I changed from LTE/CMDA/EVO AUTO to CDMA/EVDO AUTO in my Mobile Networks settings and rebooted, to no avail. As well as switching APNs.

I tried flashing cm11 3/14 clean with only PA gapps, same issue.
I tried flashing cm11 2/17 clean with only gapps, same issue.

Does anyone know what could be causing this? I dont want to say its an area-outtage until I can see if the issue persists in a few days, I just want to know if anyone has any other ideas.

Appreciate it.

To paraphrase the Carbon ROM development team, it's an "upstream" issue, where the CM people supposedly borked something relating to data connectivity in the unified builds, which is supposed to explain all their garbage builds lately. Yes, 3G problems are currently ROM-related, at least for those ROMs that seem to be taking the easy way out and pointing fingers elsewhere. Switch to LiquidSmooth, they are still releasing one solid build after another during the same time frame that other ROMs supposedly can't pull their head out of their ass, and I will personally vouch that 3G has not been an issue on LS in my area of the globe.

On a more positive note, there is a nice app available in the Play Store called Signal Check Lite, it does a great job of showing which networks are available based on your current setting (WiFi, LTE, or 3G). Good way to check what is available versus what your phone is or is not connecting to.

But what I dont understand then is why it persisted through a clean install of 2/17, where it worked previously?

Well Im going to be traveling to a different location tomorrow, I will see if the results are still the same. and then idk try stock? Im puzzled.

Highly recommending LiquidSmooth, I only have 3G available at work and it picks up the signal just fine. At home, when testing, toggling between LTE and 3G presents no issues either.

Have you not been flashing any of the APN fixes? Also, just FYI, the Dalvik patch is mainly for Nexus phones, and is more of a placebo on our phones.

I just tried the one on these forums, as well as the one that utilized APN Backup & Restore.... all to no avail.

I personally just switched to liquid smooth to give it a whirl, but the last cm 11 d2lte build I flashed I had to use the older fix number 2, the newer universal APN fixes just caused crashes

What do you mean?

I mean the last time I flashed cm11 was 3-7 or 8 build
Tried using the universal APN fix on mopedryders page and it wouldn't work just kept causing crashes
So I used the old fix number 2, its on the same page in the older versions section, says underneath if someone said to use fix number 2 this is the one

That one worked for me without any issues, and I also didn't need to let it settle
I flashed the ROM, then gapps, then fix 2 all at one time one after another and then booted and that time no crashes and everything worked as it should

I wiped everything and flashed Stock-MK5-Deodexed. It appeared to have 3G (3G status in the status bar) and full connectivity with browser. I wiped and flashed CM11 d2lte 3/15, no gapps, no fixes. No 3G services, no data at all. Reflashed the modem, nothing. Fix #2 from modedryders... Nothing

Im at a loss here?

EDIT: I clean flashed D2SPR 2/17 and 3G is working. Can someone please give me a guide for installing D2LTE on this phone without losing 3G? [I switch my mobile networks from CDMA/LTE to CDMA as well, I dont get LTE]

Just tried this for giggles&grins and I might stick with it! This worked right out of the box, nothing to toy with, 3G works. smooth (no pun intended) do you recommend any kernels?

Both dkp and leankernel play very nicely with LS. I switch between both, depending on my mood!

I'm not very keen on kernels to be quite honest. Do any come with LS out of the box? I was looking at KT747, any objections?
[sorry if Im throwing a bunch of questions at ya]

A kernel is like the "engine" so there is always a kernel, custom kernels are just usually that much better, in my opinion at least. I can't speak for KT, it won't even boot up on my version of the S3. Lean has been pretty good, but dkp is the bomb, I pretty much swear by it. Dev is really awesome too.

I may try it out once I get used to LiquidSmooth, which I am forever indebted to you for recommending me to because I am in love. And you said earlier that the dalvik optimization is pretty much useless for us?

Correct on the Dalvik, it is designed for the Nexus phones; on ours it's just a placebo.
