Had to share this real quickly.
I remembered looking at the HD2 when it came out and checking the size out, just to see how it compared to an iPhone. At that time, I didn't remember finding it to be that "big" and pretty easy to handle because it was so thin.
Well, I decided to stop by Radio Shack on the way home, just to get a slight refresher on the size/form factor and take a little more time holding the phone as I would do on a day-to-day basis (whether just holding it or using it). I can definitely put people's questions to rest regarding fitting the phone in your pocket. It's so thin that it really shouldn't be an issue at all (even possibly for skinny jeans). The EVO is only going to be .07 thicker than the HD2. The additional height from the HD2 won't be a problem either.
Here's the small problem for me. Even though it's supposed to be .04 less wide than the HD2, which isn't really that much at all, I think I may have problems actually holding this phone. I held the phone with the screen facing me and tried to wrap my fingers around it. I could barely touch my fingertips together. I don't have large hands at all, so at that point, I was just trying to think about how I would hold the phone in real life day-to-day situations. When I get out of my car, I have a tendency to grab my phone, pull it off the charger, and just hold it until I get out of my car to put it in my pocket. That's no problem with my Touch Pro, but with the EVO...I'm afraid I might drop the thing. Then, I also tested how I would hold it in portrait position to use the functions (txt in portrait, checking emails, opening apps, etc...). I may have trouble with that too! I held it in portrait and tried to see how far my thumb would reach to the top of the screen. One handed use in portrait mode might be a little risky (obviously, I'd use 2 hands using it in landscape for texting, emailing, or browsing).
For comparisons sake, I looked at the Droid Incredible that they had on display. That thing is definitely much smaller (form factor) than the HD2. It almost looks like a Instinct (as far as size and form factor is concerned). And even though it is supposed to be wider than an iPhone, it didn't look wider at all.
All that said, I don't think this will stop me at all from getting the EVO, as there are just that many more "pros" to getting it than the "cons." I just wanted to share this experience with those that may not have the biggest hands. It's not gynormous, but it's not necessarily a phone that you can secure with your fingers wrapped completely around it or use easily with one hand. I'm not saying that I felt like that "small hand guy" from the Burger King commercials, but it's definitely a little bit wider than I remembered. The adjustment period for me, coming from a Touch Pro right now (which is absolutely NO problem for me to handle), might not be as easy as I originally thought.
For those of you that feel you might fall into the same type of situation as me, I highly suggest going to check out the HD2 in person and really hold that phone, similarly to situations that you would hold/use your current phone on a day-to-day basis.
Other than all this, I still can't wait for the phone to come out because it'll definitely be better than my Touch Pro.
