Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

why dont u just buy a white backplate when the white version comes out
because my idea (as mentioned back 100 pages ago) was to have the front white and the back black since that part gets more dirty. But the conversations back then was that the back would be white not the front. Which is opposite of what I wanted to do.

Hmm. It says you'd have to use the USB cable. Does that mean the Incredible can only connect to one device at once because of the required cable? Obviously, this is a restriction that would not apply to the EVO considering it is a Wi-Fi hotspot for 8 devices.

One advantage the Incredible has: microSD on the side instead of under the battery. But hell, I can deal with that. As I said in an earlier post, I use Bluetooth for most file transfers anyway simply because of convenience.

there is alwayz spray paint lol lol

That sucks, did not know that.. But you could email it instead.:p

Yea the Hero couldn't even send pictures that you took with it because the file was to big. I would have to email it or email it then send it back to my phone and save it to my sd card then send it. basically anything taken with the camera was to big of a file. but send it back to yourself it works fine or use handcent or another messaging app and it works fine. I hope the EVO doesn't have this issue. Not that it's a big one but that's like an extra step to be doing all that. Little nick nack stuff should be cleared up.

I could be wrong on this, but from the video's I have seen. I think you have to remove the back cover on Incredible to access the Micro-SD slot. I watched video's on the EVO where there is an external slot on the EVO. I think if this is the case...I feel that would be another win for the EVO.

I know this is purely speculative right know but if the phone if 199 - 250 on new contract.. Do we have any ideas on off contract price? 599 possibly? I'm not sure how I'm gonna finagle it yet but im not due for an upgrade until i think its november

Is there a chance that the EVO will be for sale at the letstalk.com site? After all they power the Best Buy site? If so this could mean it may be an extra $50 less like the incredible

Well I tried out an Incredible today...

Gotta say I was not impressed. The 16:9 screen ratio that it shares with the motorola droid really makes it too cramped in the width of portrait mode. I also noticed the colors are way over exaggerated on that screen, while the droid and eris were normal on the same web pages.

So for me at least, 4.3" is my minimum from now on - I'd go bigger with the scorpion in a year if it's an option, or a dell streak style device with less bezel and made by htc, but I will never be tempted or impressed by the commoners' many 3.7" devices, it's way too ordinary already.

We're all ready for the first real superphone Hesse, bring it on!

I must have missed that post, but I am really disappointed to hear that. I emailed them asking if they were planning on making a screen protector for the EVO. Maybe other people interested in this screen protector should do the same. I will post what they say in response to my email.

I was the one that posted about this previously. Just earlier today I received my reply. I then replied back that i hoped they would reconsider since the EVO 4G is a much anticipated phone....with a media blitz just around the corner. So...who knows? Until then I think I will probably try Phantom skinz. I also like the idea of the Invisishields....especially for the back of the phone....but in a comparison complete with photos it showed that the Invisishield had more of an orange peel effect. I personally would like to use Invisishield on the back and a Steinheil Crystal....or Anti-Fingerprint on the screen.

I kind of wonder how they make the decision to produce a screen protector. Perhaps they like to see how popular the phone is first? Seems like they would want to make one for both the Incredible and the EVO 4G?

They currently make one for several other HTC phones...so those of us who want them can hope. I just wish I could order one now...and have it ready. By mid May I will order from one or more of the others. :)

Had to share this real quickly.

I remembered looking at the HD2 when it came out and checking the size out, just to see how it compared to an iPhone. At that time, I didn't remember finding it to be that "big" and pretty easy to handle because it was so thin.

Well, I decided to stop by Radio Shack on the way home, just to get a slight refresher on the size/form factor and take a little more time holding the phone as I would do on a day-to-day basis (whether just holding it or using it). I can definitely put people's questions to rest regarding fitting the phone in your pocket. It's so thin that it really shouldn't be an issue at all (even possibly for skinny jeans). The EVO is only going to be .07 thicker than the HD2. The additional height from the HD2 won't be a problem either.

Here's the small problem for me. Even though it's supposed to be .04 less wide than the HD2, which isn't really that much at all, I think I may have problems actually holding this phone. I held the phone with the screen facing me and tried to wrap my fingers around it. I could barely touch my fingertips together. I don't have large hands at all, so at that point, I was just trying to think about how I would hold the phone in real life day-to-day situations. When I get out of my car, I have a tendency to grab my phone, pull it off the charger, and just hold it until I get out of my car to put it in my pocket. That's no problem with my Touch Pro, but with the EVO...I'm afraid I might drop the thing. Then, I also tested how I would hold it in portrait position to use the functions (txt in portrait, checking emails, opening apps, etc...). I may have trouble with that too! I held it in portrait and tried to see how far my thumb would reach to the top of the screen. One handed use in portrait mode might be a little risky (obviously, I'd use 2 hands using it in landscape for texting, emailing, or browsing).

For comparisons sake, I looked at the Droid Incredible that they had on display. That thing is definitely much smaller (form factor) than the HD2. It almost looks like a Instinct (as far as size and form factor is concerned). And even though it is supposed to be wider than an iPhone, it didn't look wider at all.

All that said, I don't think this will stop me at all from getting the EVO, as there are just that many more "pros" to getting it than the "cons." I just wanted to share this experience with those that may not have the biggest hands. It's not gynormous, but it's not necessarily a phone that you can secure with your fingers wrapped completely around it or use easily with one hand. I'm not saying that I felt like that "small hand guy" from the Burger King commercials, but it's definitely a little bit wider than I remembered. The adjustment period for me, coming from a Touch Pro right now (which is absolutely NO problem for me to handle), might not be as easy as I originally thought.

For those of you that feel you might fall into the same type of situation as me, I highly suggest going to check out the HD2 in person and really hold that phone, similarly to situations that you would hold/use your current phone on a day-to-day basis.

Other than all this, I still can't wait for the phone to come out because it'll definitely be better than my Touch Pro.

I went by TMobile...and found their HD2 secured to a clamp and cable. They may have had another one for me to see...but I didn't ask. I'm 99.99% sure that I will get the EVO regardless....and didn't want to waste the TMobile peoples time.

I just checked out the 1st post again (Great job Bill) and there is a link to photos that clearly show the SD card is under the battery. Sorry.

Really, that bums me out, cause I wanted the white one. So that means I have to wait longer.

Oh well. So it the life of a dEVOtee.

Cary had a link in a post quite a while back, or possibly in another thread, which showed a company that does custom painted on skins, to give you all kinds of different groovy colors. very expensive though, but so worth it. I will probably do it. around $150 if I remember.

The thing is that phone has a 12 megapixel camera but if the evo can get close to it I'm one happy camper :D

Argh. What I've been trying to say is that it has nothing to do with megapixel count. Please realize that 720p is 1280x720 resolution which equals 921,600 pixels, which is less than even 1 megapixel. Yes, that's right, 720p is less than 1 megapixel in resolution. So, with everything else being equal on a 720p camcorder, there is no visible difference in resolution between a 1, 8, or 12 megapixel sensor. What's impressive about the Nokia N8 video is how clean it is in terms of noise and compression artifacts... and how smooth and consistent the frame rate is.

In terms of resolution, the EVO is more than capable of producing similar results. However, the jury is out on the rest of the hardware and software within the phone.

Since you've reported that Steinheil isn't going to make one probably, I've been thinking about trying some others, but I'm just back in the same boat I was before you even mentioned Steinheil (they really do look like the one of the best out there I've seen - thanks again for the tip, and your investigation). There are hundreds of choices out there and all of them claim to be the best.

I heard good things about Martin Fields. They appear to have really good touch sensitivity in a video I watched and no grippy-ness to them. Another plus is that they provide a covering for the camera lens as well (See link - HD2 example). I would love to put a covering on the camera lens of my Evo since what we have seen is that the camera protrudes off the back a little bit. They are a low adhesive type, and claim to be washable/reusable.

I think you express a valid point. I just personally feel, that as time goes by we will figure it out. I can see the progression from brick phone to almost microscopic phone..it just the nature of things. I think this progression to wider taller phones is also the natural progression...as long it remains form factor..(IMHO) I can remember my first bag phone weighing at 5lbs. I think were heading in the right direction, but your concern is valid.

just watched nightmare on elm street for the midnight release. Freaky. But on topic, I would have used the evos faceburning technology to kill freddy. Haha. Also checked out the incredible. It's very small. The evo will be perfect. (for me atleast)

Unfortunately, the EVO's SD slot is definitely UNDER the battery. I believe you're right about the Incredible's back plate having to come off to access it, but from there you can remove the SD card from a hidden side slot without having to actually REMOVE the battery and power the phone down. But, again: HARDLY a deal breaker for me. I rarely pop the card out anyway thanks to Bluetooth and various online services for easy file transfers. So no biggie!
