Polaris Office Viewer 5 not display well

programm

Newbie
When opening files such as RTF that has inside special characters (from European alphabets), they do not display well, do not display at all, also url links within the RTF are completely gone...

does any1 know why that is? I use galaxy s4 mini..

Has it ever worked for RTF? Most office clones that I've heard of won't handle that format.

Who uses RTF these days? Is this some old legacy documents that you wish to open. It's one of those old WordPerfect or WordStar DOS formats isn't it?

I know Kingsoft and QuickOffice don't support RTF. Might have to convert the RTFs into something more common and universal using a desktop office suite, like DOC or PDF. LibreOffice and MS Word on PC can open RTF, but don't know about compatibility though, like if the formatting and special characters are likely to get screwed up.

It's RTF from Wordpad... on Windows 8.1 and I transfer the file to the phone. I use it cause it is a more compact and easier to open than MS office, plus it lists all in 1 document, and I dont have office on my PC right now, I use it cause I like its formatting more than MS Word.

Polaris opens it, this was the program that was hinted to use when I tried to open rtf on my phone, so i installed it via samsung account - but other symbols are missing and links in the document too

So is there a fix for Polaris or something else to open PDF and RTF like polaris? This is Polaris viewer 5. The problem is that some symbols used in other language and even links I posted in the RTF are missing.

afaik PDF reads well but I still have vague memories of some thigns missing from the pdf as well when viewed with Polaris.

I didn't even realise Wordpad did RTF. Last time I came across an RTF document was early 90s. Your documents are missing European characters? Is that eastern European or possibly Cyrillic letters? Some versions of Android may not have full European language support. Where did you buy the phone? Also there's document encoding and code-pages as well, usually when documents include non-English characters and accents.

PDF is normally OK though, because that embeds a subset of the fonts it needs in the document itself, so the document can be viewed correctly even if the OS doesn't have the required fonts and/or languages. Try Adobe Reader for Android or Kingsoft Office.

The RTF has a mix of cyrllic and some other west European characters not present in English.. Cyrllic works absolutely fine, the missing characters are

Č Ř Š ů and similar, I have Samsung keyboard with English, Cyrillic and that language's but that doesn't matter, it is not the language, I think it is the program (POLARIS) cause SMS msges and such dont have such a problem with any characters..

Also links / URLs were missing from the RTF, that are absolutely in english.. it's the program, is latest version,

Any better Polaris? Can Adobe PDF Reader open RTF files?

hello,
i am not necrobumping.
this topic is still an issue, please bear with me and read on.

i am having the same problem as the original poster: polaris office, which is installed on my android kitkat phone, won't read special characters (umlauts, mostly, like äö) in .rtf files.
i am forced to use these rtf files, because they are given to me in that format, and the institution giving them out recommends the same format for returning them, so i also need to be able to edit .rtf.

.rtf or Rich Text Format is not outdated.
it is still the #1 recommendation when you ask a question like "which document format shall I choose to ensure maximum compatibility".
i guess we can thank microsoft for that; they seem to be more interested in supporting .rtf than .odt (Open Document Format).

For now i've installed WPS Office (formerly known as Kingsoft Office); it's free, I've blocked its internet access, and it at least read the format ok, but after editing i am again forced to save it in some other format.

So the search for a proper .rtf editor for android continues.

PS:
I resent how mikedt belittled OP's problem, revealing nothing but ignorance, and I respect programm for staying so calm. Did they ever find a solution?
