Verizon kit kat update?? Anyone heard an ETA?

From what I understand, most of the advantage is under the hood. Minor differences elsewhere.

I did discover what took so long to get the update though. The update has a different Verizon Boot Animation, which is obviously the reason for the delay. Since it went from the elaborate white, red and gold Verizon logo rolling onto the screen to the static Verizon with the sparkle going up the check mark. I'm sure some techie and a team of graphics designers have been working on that for the last month.

I sure hope it isn't Olive Tree. I have come to rely heavily on that app.

There was a memory leak or something like that in the 4.4 camera that was causing massive battery drain issues. The fix was rolled out to the other GS4 models last month and I am hoping Verizon was smart enough to hold off for the fix until releasing this to us....

Unfortunately, yes it was Olive Tree. Getting ready to reinstall it. Will let you know...

**Edit*

Well, I uninstalled and reinstalled. Worked fine, but my library was gone. I went to settings and reset the path to my library and it quit working again. Evidently the changes to SD card access haven't been incorporated into Olive Tree. I guess I'll reinstall again and move my library back to internal storage. Oh well...

Baseband for the Verizon release is i545VRUFNC5 which would indicate that the Verizon release is based on the 5th build release for March 2014. This is in use across a lot of the International models already and is regarded as being very stable and bug free.

Top Tips: For anyone who is updating...

Make sure you download over Wi-Fi if possible

Have at least 80% battery before updating

After the update, wipe the cache partition and re-calibrate your battery as per #1.2 and #1.4 of the Update Problems - Dummies Guide

A lot of info I am reading online is suggesting that we need to move ALL apps back to internal storage before the upgrade to avoid loss of data.

Can anyone confirm this?

Phone seems more smooth...but don't like the fact that can't hide apps that I don't use often. It was nice having them not in my app list but still able to get to them if needed. Also I thought I had read that the Bluetooth was gonna be able to support txt message readout on the Microsoft Sync in my Ford.

I looked for an update today on my Verizon S4 and pulled it. I just did a factory reset and am nearly done setting things up. Lots of new bloatware for sure!

Anyone else with a Verizon S4 should be able to pull the update like I did very soon! I'm on 4.4.2 as of 3pm pacific time this afternoon! I'm all stock and NOT rooted.

I took the plunge and installed the 4.4.2 update. All of my apps are working at this time (including Olive Tree) AND My Files and Root Explorer (I am NOT Rooted, but like the app and still use it) can move, delete, copy, etc any file from any location to any location.

So Far, my phone seems smoother and more responsive. The only thing I am somewhat upset about is that I cannot hide apps in the app drawer any more. However, I did create a folder in my app drawer and moved all those bloat apps I couldn't disable to that folder and them names it with a Z so it would just sit at the very bottom of the list.

Other than that one little thing (which is by no means a deal breaker for me at all), i am really happy with this update!

I know how to make a folder on any home page. However, how do I make a folder within the app drawer itself that will keep all my bloatware out of it? When I tried this after reading what you said, it simply copied the shortcuts and still left everything untouched within my app drawer.

Updated to 4.22 and now cannot use Solid Explorer to modify anything on my external SD card. It seems other apps such as the built in camera app & My Files can do this but SE cannot. Apps like Note Everything can no longer backup to the SD card either. Even worse the SD card even when removed from the phone and inserted into my PC is read only now. This blows...

Open app drawer, Menu>Create Folder. Then name your folder whatever you want (like I said, I started with a Z). Then (within app drawer), Menu>Edit. Move the bloat to the new folder. The folder will still be visible and everything can be seen within it, but it at least puts it all in one spot and cleans up the rest of the app drawer a little.

Is Solid Explorer updated to work with 4.4? Root Explorer is working perfectly fine for me.

Apparently Solid Explorer is not updated to work with 4.4. Just updated to the latest version and have the same issue.

Edit:
Latest version of SE is now working with KitKat. Tried several times to get my SD card to read on my PC and finally did an factory reset and for some reason that worked. Odd indeed.

A very pleasant thing for me was a tasker profile started working for me after the update. Under 4.3 I has set up a profile to disable the lock screen when I was home. It never worked and I just left it in my startup profile. Post kitkat update I thought the lock screen was broken. I was going to do a Factory Reset (which I'm going to do anyway) when I realized the profile was working. Oh man, what an awesome convenience this is for me...

Hmmm, now why didn't I think of that!!!!

Hmm, is it just me, or does the screen look better after the Kit Kat upgrade? Maybe just the icons got refreshed or something. I know the resolution couldn't have changed, so maybe it's just the icons that look better.

Sad to lose my ftp and airdroid option though!

So for those who have received the update and had moved apps to the SD card, are they still working? Can you still move apps to the SD card or are they stuck on internal storage? If they still work on the SD card I'd like to move some of them back.
I just moved all of mine that were on the SD card back to internal storage but really liked being able to put them on the SD card.
Thanks in advance.

Got the update yesterday. My apps that were on SD still work just fine, and I was able to move new apps over.

Thanks much for the response. That's good news. I think I'll put some of mine back on the SD card prior to the update and see how they fare.

Perhaps this was the reason why the Verizon update has taken longer to roll out than most of the other carriers?

I just happened to be checking for updates last night, and saw the update before I reading about it being out here. I moved all my apps back to the device before the update, and then moved them back to the SD card after. No issues.

I did have one app that updates it's data daily which needed to be "reset," but other than that I've had no issues.

I must say though, given how little is different in KitKat all the fretting over the delay in the update seems sort of silly in hindsight.

I wonder if it changed your screen setting?

Settings/My Device/Display/Screen Mode

If it was set on anything else, maybe it switched it to the standard "Adapt Display." I'll try changing my wife's phone before the update to see.
