Should I do it?

Thanks for the clarification. I don't dispute what you are saying then. What is important is what works for you and you've already compared up the devices.

Got it.

I was surprised the iPhone would be a contender. Not because of configuration capability, but because of screen dimensions.

When you say Galaxy, do you mean the S5 or the Note3? I saw someone with the Note3. Was impressed with how big it was... I would think however, the S5 and G2 to be superior to that device for other reasons. The S5 with Verizon, is that a 16GB or 32GB device?

iphone is a contender because it's font sizing ability and ease of visiblity of both screen and keyboard for texting purposes seems superior to the other phones despite its small size. Surprisingly but true. Small size definitely a drawback in many ways though.

The Galaxy's I've tried are the S4 and the 4 mini. The Galaxy 5 just seemed too big for me, so I didn't even try it.

You tried the S4 but S5 is too big. Interesting...

What's interesting about that? It's bigger in every way, not to mention heavier.

I would assume that you and all users have a range of what feels comfortable to them and phones outside that range are less comfortable and thus avoided if possible.

Samsung in my book and IMHO is useless. They claim the s5 is the best phone out there but i dont think it is. To me lg g2 is a superior phone over s4 and the lg g3 specs from rumors i seen is superior over the s5. Heck I even think and believe that the M8 is better than the s5. Its more on peoples preference and opinion. Lg and HTC is better than samsung and apple to me.

Looks like LG is going to make the same mistake Samsung just made as they moved from the S4 to S5, at least from the perspective of this non-techy shopping for a new phone. The G2 is sort of too big now but very tempting. If the G3 is made bigger in any way, I would never consider buying one even with improved features in every other department.

What i dont like about samsung just like apple does is there outer hardware seems to not change. Its always the same. Yes it may be bigger but still it looks the same as the previous model. Lg G2 is a great model and setup for me, and I believe that lg is heading in the right direction. Where samsung was until now with like i said the same look. They dont listen to people's opinions about examples: speakers in the front. Thats something I like about htc and the buttons in back like lg. Now if a company would come out with a phone with both those included I be set.

From the perspective of a 51 year non-techy, that's a plus in my book. While I wish they would increase the size of the iphone, I would hope the next one looks and acts pretty much the same. Same with the next generation of the Mac Air I'm using and enjoying now.

In fact, one of the reasons I'm considering switching to an iphone is so I dont have to go through such headaches every two years. I personally don't want to look at dozens of phones on several different operating platforms from many different companies. I just want to get the better version of what I'm already using (if I like it.)

There's a great peace of mind in being happy with a machine, as I am now with the the Mac Air, and knowing that come time for a new laptop, I'll just get the 2016 version or whatever of one I'm using now. No stress, no anxiety of choice. No hanging around in forums like this to educate myself. Just go get the latest version and be done with it.

Anyone understand the appeal of this besides me?

I really hope you dont take the message i was stating as judging you. Just shows my point that everyone has different likes. I like the bigger screen but also i like difference in previous models. I understand where your coming from though.

I see where you are going with it. I say get an iPhone. My 51 year old boss has it and the font is huge for his texts and such and it's easy for him to learn and use. I personally have a Macbook Pro and iPad Mini as well as two iPods, but my phone will always be Android. Because I carry my phone with me every day and I love all the techie stuff I would get bored easily with an iPhone (had the very first one they came out with). I like to customize because I get bored easily and like to switch phones often. I have the G2 and it is a beast of a phone. The battery life is spectacular, the screen is great, the camera is awesome and it's not too heavy to carry in my pocket. The only downfall I have found is the speakers but I use bluetooth headphones anyway so not a deal breaker. I have an S4, and I like that phone too. I switch back and forth between the two for variety but the battery life is nowhere near the G2, but I have three spares for the G4 (yes, I am a giant phone nerd).

Please don't take this the wrong way, but judging from your last comment you like boring - in the sense that you just want something that isn't too hard to use, fits your needs and is dependable. Those things are an iPhone. Nothing wrong with that at all!

Good luck with whatever you do!

I definitely do like simple. The idea of even getting "bored" by a phone seems weird to me. I would never change anything about my phone unless there's a geniuine need or obvious advantage to doing so.

In this respect, it does make me an obvious candidate for an iphone -- particularly if they make a slightly bigger phone -- but there are some things about iphone I find so incredibly stupid and annoying and can't believe I can't change them.

Even though I customize few things about a phone, if I can NOT customize those few things it drives me nuts. So I feel kind of feel stuck in this terrible no-man's-land of disliking both iphones and non-iphones for different reasons...

When I use my wife's iPhone 5s, this comes to mind and seems apropos
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtvjbmoDx-I

Yup. They're a bunch of Moonies.

So I loaded big font. I like what the increased font I'm using does to my text messages, less so about how it effects other things.

But I also notice I now have some ad for candy crush or some other app like that periodically popping up on my screen at random times. What is this about, and how can i get rid of it?

When I used Big Font, I saw no advertisements. Maybe I didn't use it long enough. :)

However when I go there, I see you have to purchase the PRO version for ad-free use...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.a0soft.gphone.bfont

When I go to the developer's site:
A0Soft Inc. - Download Applications

I can't find a Pro version. Is there some kind of key request in Settings (for the program)? I've since uninstalled it. :D You should write the developer and ask for an Ad-Free version. If he tells you it is, then perhaps you have installed a different Big Font program?

And regarding the keyboard... I don't like the LG keyboard either, so I installed the google keyboard. I don't exactly consider google to be an iffy 3rd party developer. I also have an iphone 4s and can't stand the apple keyboard.

Thanks man for the Google keyboard information. I been head scratching for the keyboard.

Thanks, Stef. If I keep using it, maybe I'l investigate further. But it's this kind of thing that makes me wary of apps to replace existing features...

Just because it's Google doesn't mean it's going to work perfectly on the G2, does it? I'm really no expert on this stuff, but it would seem whenever you begin to swap out installed things for 3rd party replacements you're increasing your risk of glitches.

I like the iphone keyboard the best so far of all I've tried. What don't you like about it?

No keyboard seems terrific to me. I question designers decisions to give prime first screen real estate to something like the language icon just in case I want to switch to Chinese whilst composing a text, or the microphone icon, instead of a key like the "?" which we all use quite often in texts. What's up with that?

Thanks man for the Google keyboard information. I been head scratching for the keyboard.
I too don't like lg keyboard either

I'm trying out the swiftkey keyboard. It's not bad, and I know some people love it.

Pretty much imho Google was developed and made for guys to customize their phone for their taste. I tried Swiftkey I didn't like it to much.

The Google keyboard doesn't have extra add ons like the lg does. The Google keyboard is simple and basic plus it also included the swipe feature in it. Pretty much newer phones do now. I tried the iPhone keyboard also and it just seemed too touch sensitive to me if that makes sense.

Just looked at a picture the google keyboard, and like what I see. I like that there's a question mark on the main screen so I don't have to switch screens, and also the emoticon on the main screen. I don't swype, so I like that there's a little bit of spacing between the keys too. Maybe I will try it out and see if I like it better than the swiftkey I've experimenting with now.

One problem with LG screens, which applies to the G2 and my current older Lucid if I understand things right, is that while it supplies the spacing between keys that I like (also found on the iphone), it doesn't do autocorrect and/or word prediction well. (I should probably also point out that I'm a slow and bad texter, and generally favor one handed use.)

I just downloaded google keyboard, but there is no ? on the main screen as I thought. I also seem to be unable to type an actual sentence on it. Just a bunch of nonsense. I think I have the right boxes checked, but no real autocorrection or prediction seems to be taking place.

Here is what I found when I searched images for google keyboard. Is it possible to get a screen with this layout?

I'm using the LG Keyboard on KK, and it's providing me with alternates / correction (Settings | Language and Input, and click on the gear next to LG Keyboard), and select Word Suggestion for Text prediction to be enabled.

Also if I long-press the "m" key, I can get the question mark. Otherwise, long-pressing the comma to the right of the space bar, brings up other typical punctuation symbols...

It's also capable of swyping (put your finger on first letter, and swype through the letters of the word, no need to take finger off keyboard).

You need to experiment more.

Personally, I like Swype Keyboard over the LG Keyboard. But remember, I told you there is Big Keys, and others out there.

Also, go to Landscape orientation for a bigger keyboard.

HTH.

Those last questions were about the Google keyboard I was trying out. I do have the LG keyboard on my Lucid, and have experimented some, but I don't think it has this KK thing. I prefer the swiftkey to the LG keyboard I think. Don't like lanscape mode in general, or at least leaving auto-rotate on. Swype not for me either.

Here's a new question: Does that little LED light around the power switch on the G2 glow steadily when there is a new message of some kind, and is the Motorola Active Display a similar feature?

If either of these phones do what I think this means, it seems a very attractive feature. I'm constantly picking up my phone and and turning it on/unlocking to see if any messages came in while I was in the other room or whatnot, almost neurotically and automatically doing so many times a day, and I see other people do this too.

But if a phone offers a small light that stayed on steadily for hours if need be -- not blinking, because that could be annoying -- that could be a huge thing. No more obessively checking the phone, but simply glancing over at it? Wonderful.

Is this how this feature actually works? Does iphone offer anything similar?
