I am looking for confirmation that anyone has succeeded in rooting the NEC Terrain (NE-201A1A).
I have seen people having trouble and questionable/incomplete postings but I haven't seen a definitive yes.

Although I have been using Nexus7s this is my first Android phone. (I'm a webOS lover.). I will dive in and learn, if I know that I'm not heading at a brick wall.

I was waiting to see if anyone else answered.

The guys at XDA-developers have been able to access temp root but so far no one has a rooted NEC Terrain.

I have seen a lot of "guides" that just give generic rooting steps. I even have seen one guy defend this but he has never touched a NEC Terrain.
I also have seen a group who are running through all of the automated rooting methods. So far none work, but at least none hurt the phone either.
 
I've been trying very hard to root mine for a while. I couldn't do exactly what they did in the XDA forum, but I did manage to pull the boot.img and look through it. Of course, patching it back is impossible. I believe the key lies in the recovery mode password. I've been doing some research to try to find out how to get into that. I will post if I find anything. It may have something to do with the IMEI number, but I have a feeling it's proprietary.

I was wondering what the password does.

I've tried getting info from NEC and it is impossible. When I got my Terraine I had some problems and questions. They were nice but couln't ever help me. Even "does it have an inductive coil" was too tough for them to answer.

https://github.com/x29a/nec_terrain_root/tree/master/terroot . I used terroot and finally I rooted nec terrain and deleted all the AT&T and unused google stuff.
 
Hi, folks

I have tried apk file following 1,2,3 .... but wihtout sucessfull. My nec terrain was unblocked (nec carrier). ¿¿
