Beef with Google!

gloriousnumber1

Android Expert
I got rid of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Google+, (and probably other stuff I can't recall at the moment). However without G+, my YouTube account is completely useless. My videos say "null null" next to them and can't be watched. I can't comment or upload. I knew Google owned them but in my opinion, a policy like that is worse than crApple! This is far worse than I thought it was. I had a youtube account years before G+ was around.

Is there a way to get around this or did they eliminate that now? I looked it up earlier. I use Gmail, Maps, calendar, keep my contacts in Google, etc. However, don't even try to get me to consider G+. "It's better now, you would like it!" etc will fall on deaf ears. I can live without rating or commenting in the play store since I rarely do anyhow.

Anyone else feel this way?

I just went to YouTube and made sure I wasn't signed in to anything Google-related. Then I chose to sign in and I used my old YT username and password, which yielded this:

Choosing "I don't want to use my full name" took me to another screen with options, including using my old YT username or choosing a new one. I canceled out then, but it LOOKS like it's certainly doable.

I'm sorry to say, but Google has made so that if you want to use ANY Google service, you have a G+ account. 75% of the accounts on G+ are inactive and the users do not even know they have one.

My advice to you is, you can't do anything about it. Your profile is just there, but doesn't have to be in use. Google forces a lot of things on it's users, and not everyone is acceptance of everything that Google does.

There's no deleting your Google plus without deleting your Google. Google is your Google Plus.

Soon, everything they do will be integreated with it, then that'll be the day that they start hiring people who get social.

(I am a Google fan, but Wow, Google took like 15 attempts to make a social network actually successful. Google even wanted to buy 30% of Facebook, but Mark went with Microsoft.

Good for him... Microsoft does great thing with Facebook)

I "downgraded" my Google account to dump Google+, but I still use other Google services. I think it's ridiculous that they think the only way to make something competitive with FB at some point is to make people have it. I Remember then G+ was invite only, back then people wanted to join. Today, they have to drag people.

I remember the first day I got my Google plus account. I was in there for 6 hours. Wow. I actually like no LOVE G+. That's just me and I respect those who want nothing to do with it. Just like me with FaceBook. Deleted mine a long time ago. Facebook was causing me to feel more and more depressed so I cut it out of my life.

I took one look from an old account I use for Spam, and I prefer moderated fora. + just reminded me of the old Newsgroups which didn't keep up with moderation. You got spam, conspiracy theories, personal vendettas, you name it. In fact, I think Google took over those newsgroups years ago. With moderated fora, you don't have to block the people that annoy - the moderator does it per TOS. No complaints from personal hurts by unfriending or blocking people over posts that you find uninteresting.

Since I use TBird for email, I've marked everything from Google as spam and have it deleted automatically. I don't use the Gmail web page, and don't use it on the phone, either. IMAP, POP3 work.

The other account keeps pestering on Play, which is the only service I really use.Youtube is only used for tutorial and not entertainment purposes. I never posted reviews anyway. If the product was that good or bad, I emailed the developer.

I don't like or follow. The only things I've ever followed were the Mars Rovers on Twitter.

Google does need to break up services so you can pick and choose. If you want them all, select them all. Select what you need otherwise. Google can still get enough info to market since that's what they want, anyway.

Parents are starting to be concerned about any app that shows location to others with the same app. Pedophiles are starting to track kids that way. A lot of parents are oblivious when it comes to apps. The in app purchases are under fire, too. A young child doesn't understand those.

ANY Google service? I have a couple of GMail accounts, and can use Calendar and Maps, but I don't have a G+ profile (if I log in via a browser to any of them I'll be invited to "upgrade" to G+, but always ignore this).

Sure, I can't comment on stuff or leave reviews, but I'm fine with that. I've never felt I've missed anything from the services I don't use.

Read that. Couple of others about the supposed change. I am surprised that Google pushed it this far. There was such an outcry over Buzz, that Buzz got cancelled.
I think they were opting everyone it.

I got annoyed with + when unable to log out on the PC. The window pushing G+ wouldn't close or move if you wanted to sign out.

Google is right to offer the services to those that want them, offer being the keyword. A lot find Drive, Maps, etc. handy and convenient so those of us who don't care for the services should let those who do alone, and vice versa. Google should let us pick and choose. They can get enough marketing info from a couple of apps. I just don't want an "experience" I want something I can use which does not include music, video or social networking. Music and video go on the wifi tablet. My favorite apps do demand a smartphone.

I know someone out there uses Google+...but who are these people?

Lucky I have made my gmail-account years ago and hence I dont have G+. It always remember to ask me to create G+ to get all benefits (?), but I always hit cancel. ;) I dont need G+, I dont want to have G+ and I dont create G+. Got it Google?

Only thing I miss it is to leave feedback about apps in Play store. That is not possible without G+ anymore. :/

Here:
Thanks for nothing, jerkface | ZDNet.

Also another service I wouldn't want:
Exclusive: Google Will Soon Introduce 'Nearby' To Let Other 'People, Places, And Things' Know When You're Around

I don't want people to know where I am, and I don't support the local merchants. They simply don't sell what I want, so I have to buy elsewhere, and the merchants I do support don't use this tech.

For instance - no local merchant sells eyepieces for telescopes, or sweatshirt fleece. I have to order online.

FFS, just make a damn G+ profile. It doesn't even have to be real. Name yourself Quentin Tarantino or something. You don't even need to use it ever. Just let it exist so you can use Youtube.

Crazy people thinking the internet is out to get them.

This is another reason not to let Google have your location.

Now it does say that you will be able to control who your location is reported to, but what's your long term trust level here? And it also means Google will know who you interact with, adding more links to their website of saleable data.

Nope, I see nothing wrong with refusing to play.

I see why this is a good thing for Google. I use the field trip app, Google knows where I am 24/7. That way they can send me interesting places when I am near by.

Wouldn't work for me - all the interesting places are in the next state over. And half the sites have no cell service. Go offroading behind the rocks, and you are warned there will be no cell service.

I like that big area in the southwest where no one has any coverage.

i cannot speak for him/her but for me my Facebook exists to do vegan advocacy. unfortunately i often have to see pics of bludgeoned deer and elephants and so on. sometimes it is nice to take a G+ break and enjoy things about Android and stuff. also, G+ does targeted ads better. it suggests vegan/android/deer lover communities, ads for recipes which are vegan friendly, and so on.

Facebook still sends me suggestions for Bass Pro and Team Realtree, and pages for hunting interests, despite me sending them feedback for three years telling them quite specifically i am NOT a deer hunter, NOT a meat eater. still, to this day they assume anyone who has anything to do with deer is always interested in hunting, and posting about animal rights is grounds for harking the new Hardee's chicken sandwich.

the only gripe i have with Google is them turning Android slowly into iOS and flat design ugliness. the Play Store still sucks. their apps are data use hogs even if you do not use them, with the features/UI getting less and less efficient (takes three steps to back out of a YouTube video completely) with every update.
