Android screencasting arrives for Chromecast in coming days

I now have the option to mirror my screen with my nexus 7, but when I play any old video I have on my device I don't have any audio coming out of the TV or the device for some reason. Anybody know why?
 
I don't think you can mirror video, i.e. play and get sound with the mirrored image. I believe mirrorcast is what it implies, visuals but no sound. You can play videos via Google+ and chromecast.
 
I played a bit with casting my device screen to my Chromecast last night - works great, and I got both audio and video. At least on my network, there seemed to be about a quarter-of-a-second of lag, but the quality was very, very good. Works for casting games, video, and pretty much everything else - even music, if your music source of choice doesn't provide native Chromecast support.

This is a HUGE update!
 
I'm currently experiencing fcs on my HTC One M7, although I have the option to mirror as soon as it connects it disconnects with the message "Unfortunately Google Play services has stopped". I guess I'll have to wait for an update.

For those whose device is currently not supported, i.e. no 'Cast Screen' option you can try this little enabler app [EXPERIMENTAL] Enable Mirroring from any device - XDA Forum - I installed it and successfully ran screen cast on a Galaxy Note 2 with a custom KK 4.4.2 ROM.

It is safe to use as far as I can tell.
 
I fixed it. I now have audio. I just rebooted the Chromecast using the Chromecast app. It has an option in settings to reboot. Works great.

Works with ViperOneM8 rom, audio after Chromecast reboot.

Certainly.

It's not available for your stock, unmodified device.

It's a beta feature, you'll have to wait for Google to complete it and then see if your device is supported.

Google has not announced a completion date and there are no predictions as to what devices will, or can, be supported for this feature.

Strictly speaking about screen casting, the subject of this thread. :) If your device wasn't among the handful announced by Google to receive early stock support, then this mod writes to a protected part of the /data partition and therefore requires root access.

If you want to cast local files compatible with Chromecast or use media services such as Plex, Netflix, Hulu, etc etc, you ought to have no problem with with a stock anything.

Awesome, thanks. I'm planning on picking up a Chromecast purely for Netflix but panicked when I saw this thread lol. I can live without the screencasting for now as I have a wired adaptor that I can use to mirror my screen to the tv. Unfortunately when I use that for Netflix, it only streams in low-quality :mad:

You're going to love Netflix through the Chromecast.

It's a better picture than I get through a Samsung Smart TV app and better than through my HTPC.

With Netflix, your Android just serves as the remote control, all of the actual work is done by the Chromecast.
 
Thank you early mon for that straightforward explanation.
I am presently using a Samsung HDTV dongle together with an HDMI cable to mirror my galaxy note2 on my TV. The drawback is that the phone is tethered to the TV.
HOPEFULLY Chromecast or some other dongle will come out soon that will enable me to untether my phone.
