Root [Virgin Mobile] VM GS3 ROM Flash Failing

So I have a virgin mobile galaxy s3 model SPH-L710 rooted with LiquidSmooth 3.0 4.4.2 ROM using the newest Philz Touch Recovery and latest gapps. I have been using the phone for a couple months now and it is totally usable, though I have had several minor bugs and glitches in the system that are easily fixed, and at the worst I have to reboot.

Overall I'm fine with it and the phone is totally usable, but I then thought I may have not fully cleared all of my caches and wiped and reset for a new ROM. So I copied a new gapps, Liquidsmooth rom, and an APN fix zip files to my internal storage, and rebooted into philz touch to clear caches and wipe for a new ROM install. When I started the install for the ROM I soon after got the ! mark sign and the dead android guy with text saying "Flash Failed:Bad zip file". Then I tried the APN fix and the gapps and got the same outcome.

After that I tried new zip files and the same outcome occurred. Then I tried a factory reset and got stuck in a boot loop, which forced me to restore a very old backup so I had to install my new apps and such. Then I realized my old backup didn't have Apollo installed because I root uninstalled it, so I downloaded an Apollo APK file and saved it onto my external SD. When I loaded into recovery to flash it, it worked fine. After that I moved my zips onto the external to see if It would help with no avail. I got the same outcome. I've tried several new zips and get the same message. At this point I'm more bothered by the fact that none of my zip flashes have worked than fixing the small bugs in my phone by re-flashing my rom.

If anyone can shed light on the situation that would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

When you tap on Wipe Data with Philz, it gives you 2 options: 1) Wipe Data/Factory Reset and 2) Install a new ROM. You always want to use the first option. I know it seems misleading because it seems you should use 'Install a new ROM' when installing a new ROM, but that will lead to a bunch of issues. I had to find that out the hard way when using Philz. So, be sure to use 'Wipe Data/Factory Reset' when flashing ROMs. Hopefully, that's the issue you are having.

I am not saying you are wrong, but I always use the second option and have never had problems. I did have errors like op flashing roms when I accidentally flashed an old version of philz, I assumed the top files were the latest lol.

OK I will be sure to try that. Also what else should I be clearing? like dalvik cache aswell? I'll try this when I get home tommorow. If that doesn't work then I'll reistall Philz Touch though I'm almost 100% sure I have the newest version installed maybe there is an issue with my install. Thanks in advance.

It is suggested that you clear Dalvik. I usually don't. It's really not necessary when flashing ROMs. But if you're having trouble, I would give it a try.

I have a rooted VM GS3. When I flash Liquid ROM it installs but cannot connect to Mobile Data at all. It makes calls, does texting, wi-fi all ok. I had to restore my rooted Stock Kit Kat 4.42.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Ok sorry to get back to you so late, but I flashed the newest Philz Touch, which flashed perfectly fine, then factory reset and wiped caches. Went to flash liquidsmooth and same issue. dead android :(

Are you downloading the new zip files directly to your phone or transferring them from your computer? If updating to the newest version of the recovery did not fix it then it could be that the files are being corrupted as you transfer them. Compare the md5sum of that liquid smooth to the one the developer posted.

I'm transferring them with Airdroid from my pc to the phone.
