my friend.. 38 yrs old. heavy smoker. 2 packs a day
he left USA to visit a 3rd world country last week. will not be back for 2 months.

2 yrs ago he was getting a blood test.. and got 2000 Cholestrol level.
was rushed to hospital and passed out on the way... was there 8 days to lower it.

2 weeks ago he got a blood test.
we got the results yesterday.
this Triglyceride is 2160.

based on this table below:
http://www.vaughns-1-pagers.com/medicine/cholesterol-range/cholesterol-range-big-chart.gif

it is very bad to be above 500.. and chart does not even go above 700.
we got a message to him via a friend over there.
how could he be walking around and having fun??
he is actually there to get married. so...

I am worried for him

Sorry to hear, Dan. :(
I got blood tests back for something totally different, but very alarming in which I had to make big changes in my diet. Here's hoping he's okay and his spouse is taking care of him.

Honestly, with such high triglycerides AND a 2-pack a day smoker, he's a stroke or heart attack just waiting to happen. He needs to make some serious changes--YESTERDAY.

The blood test results will have (I hope) come with an associated unit. But that chart is useless as it has no units.

You can take a wild guess that perhaps the value you have is mg/L and the chart is mg/dL, in which case your friend is at 216 on the chart for total cholesterol.

But really, this is something he needs to have the doctor explain to him. That's the only way to get accurate information.

^^^^ ++ this is Correct, we would need mote info on the reading he is giving you, In the USA, a reading of over 2000I would be amazed if he was still alive. 200 is borderline here, so you can do the math. More info would be needed along with more explanation from his doctor.

Not only that the date of the chart . so the numbers has also changed .it has been reported that if your numbers are close and let's say for example the high number is 65 and your number is 45 . the doctors will be giving you a medication called statins . the reason is that the drug can do more good than harm with the numbers .

Also its two types of cholesterol

The specific type depends on how much protein there is in relation to fat.

Low density lipoproteins (LDL) is also called "bad" cholesterol because it can cause plaque buildup on the walls of arteries. ...High density lipoproteins (HDL) is also called "good" cholesterol

Just see for yourself vitamins is needed for young and old some old people take children's vitamins to help restore system and help out.

Also beware keep the family dog in good health he/she can get that plaque build up

Dan said that the measurement is of triglycerides, which would account for both types.

I see what Dan said its where his friend had the test done. Over in our third world countries it is tested different .

Normal triglycerides means there are less than 150 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL).

Borderline high triglycerides = 150 to 199 mg/dL.

High triglycerides = 200 to 499 mg/dL.

Very high triglycerides = 500 mg/dL or higher

And he need to leave the fatty foods. And that 2160 maybe his vitamin d level.

the test was done here in USA.

and because there are 2 separate times that he had this tested.
first time.. he was rushed to hospital and was there for 8 days.

this time ..the tester was worried it was a "mistake" because it cant be that high.
this tells me .. the unit of measure must be correct.

and we are talking about triglyceride .. not vitamins.

but to double check.. I will go confirm .. it was NOT vitamins or unit errors.
because it is a valid concern
