First, love the ROM! I just rooted yesterday and I'm thinking I might not need to switch to anything else. I can't believe how fast it is.

Two questions...First, I'm using Helix Launcher 2 (I'm sorry, but I really like the 3D app drawer and ability to hide the notification bar). On the stock home screen as well as the pre-loaded Helix 1, the Google search widget is different looking than the standard version (nicer looking). But when I load the widget on my Helix 2 screen it's the standard one. Is there a way to get the nicer looking one you have loaded for Helix 1 to work on Helix 2 (perhaps a script I can run)?

Second, the blinking LED light notification light stops blinking if I turn on the home screen even without actually checking to see what the notification is. This is different than what I'm used to. Is this designed to be this way? Is there a way to change this?

Thanks again for your work!

That's because the Google search widget is tied to whatever launcher you use. Since you have a stock HL2, it is the stock widget.

If you want the themed widget, you need to uninstall Helix2, and reinstall using the file I provided in the first post (instructions and terminal code are provided).

As for the LED light, that is a 'feature' of 2.1. It does not blink when the screen is on, because you can see what the notification was on the bar.

Thanks for the info. I didn't read through your initial post clearly enough. I must have missed the info about Helix 2.

Hey Fab - Do we need the Email/MMS update Pete put up on 5/2?

I am planning on wiping (Grrrrr) and trying your ROM. Actually I am going to update V1 with Nex, try it out, THEN wipe if I like, which I think I will since just the Nex theme is very nice and that font is outstanding!
Thanks
N

Is there a difference between formatting the SD card from inside the phone as opposed to not formatting out of the box or formatting in a card reader attached to the PC? I'm wondering if this is causing my checksum errors in clockwork, not having formatted while in the phone. (sorry for half hijacking).

I personally have not had to tried this, so I'm not sure of the differences in formatting the SD Card in the phone, in a card reader or other methods.

I was just trying to help link similar problems in different forums.

I did read somewhere that "moving", as opposed to "copying" the SD Card contents to your PC is a BAD idea. So if you do try it, COPY, do not move your SD Card to your PC.

BTW, Fab, I flashed P3Droid's 1.2GHz kernel, the one in ROM Manager, under CyanogenMod. So far the results, WOW. Very fast (SetCPU short bench 158). I think it does support Wired and Wireless Tethering too.

Do you know what is supposed to break if you use a Pete unapproved kernel?

Post back any result you have, good or bad. Others may be having the same problem, just not posting. (I am one of those, who does a lot more reading than posting.)

That was me that moved :)

Just long formatted via my PC and it is FLAWLESS now. No boot issues when mounting the SD card and my home loaded very fast.

I highly recommend this. Might be a good idea to do this every couple months?

Installation Instructions
-Rename to update.zip if using SPR, otherwise just install .zip with Clockwork. It is always good policy to do a complete wipe of data, cache, system, and boot. Don't say I didn't warn you
Is that the format boot and format system options in the mount and unmount partitions menu in clockwork recover?

I never thought these two words would be in the same sentence but, my Helix2 is snappy! Forget FCs, I see absolutely zero lag using Helix2! If you've been hesitant to try Helix2 because of lag or FCs, don't. This rom can easily handle it!

So, does anyone have a preference for the kernels? I was using the 1k that came with Pete's Nextheme but it was running a little warm for my tastes. Anyone play with the 800 yet?

i am running the 800mhz kernel and i sit around 75-80F idle and under a load i get up to around 110F-116F which is a little higher than normal for me but still in a safe range.

I love this rom. It looks great and is snappy. After playing around with a few I think this one's the keeper. I'm having big problems updating the kernel though. I can wipe and install the rom, but when I go to update the kernel my Droid just hangs on the opening screen after reboot. I am using the SPR update method and each time I do this and reboot I can't get the rom to load. Is there another way to update kernels? Sorry for the noob question, and thanks again for a beautiful rom package.

you can use rom manager to load it. when you install rom manager allow it to flash clockwork recovery then choose install rom from SD. then navigate to the kernel and select it. it will reboot into recovery and self install it.

I think I tried that before but I'll go ahead and try it again. Maybe I'll have better luck this time. I'll use clockwork for both the rom and the kernel. *fingers crossed*

After seeing your post I gave it another shot. I'm not really a fan of the 3D part, but it is fast.

BTW, you can long press the launcher box, or double tap on an empty spot of your screen. It bring up small screens at the bottom, touch one to go straight to that screen. It's so much faster than HL1 is at this, I may keep it.

Well, just tried that method. Still no dice. The original rom installs fine (I wipe every time) with clockwork. Then I want to update to the 1Ghz LV 7X kernel. After booting into the OS, I use Rom Manager to update. I select the "install ROM from SD Card", choose the zip kernel from the SD Card, and apply it. System reboots into recovery. The kernel installs (I get some message about Pete Something-or-other), and then it reboots----only to hang at the white Motorola emblem. Do I need to format the SD card? Can't figure it out.

Fab, I really appreciate all the work you do to pull these themes/themed ROMs together to make things easy for the rest of us. The thing is, I already had V1 loaded and themed with NexTheme (with some mods of my own) before you posted this version of NexBeast. The only extra feature I see in your list that I'm currently coveting is the "Lowered Ringer Delay."

Is that something that I can easily take from your zip file and apply to my Droid? If so, is it perhaps as easy as replacing the PhoneConig.apk (I hope)?

Thanks again!

Try a lower level kernel, like the 800.
