Anyone having issues with the latest Google services/play store update sucking battery?

Both my Nexus 5 and wife's Moto G are both showing its using 30% and an awake time of around an hour. Drained my N5 in 7 hours.

Usual tricks haven't worked to fix it.

No I can't say that I've been experiencing any noticeable batter drain caused by Google Play Services.
Did you update to the most recent Play Services version 6.1.83 - that just came out just a couple days ago?
If you have a custom recovery you could try and "Wipe Dalvic Cache" and "Cache" or just "Cache " if you have stock recovery.
Also check "/Setting/Location/Mode/Location Mode/" and check to see what your settings are set to... "Night a Accuracy/Battery Saving or Device Only" as this can /will affect your battery life.

Here's a pic of mine, with minimal use and it's set at "High Accuracy" with low battery setting.

Hope this helps and good luck!

I've always had issues off and on with play services draining my battery... I haven't noticed any unusual battery drain (more than normal) with recent updates.

Yes it's 6.1.83. GPS was already on power saving.

I've cleared cache in recovery again.

Hopefully it's not going to do again today.

I think I had a problem with it last week. The factory battery app would show Screen using the most with Google play services right behind. It was draining about 10%/hr in standby but only when I was away from home. By the end of the day I was down to 20% or less where normally it would be in the 60-80% range.
I was thinking the battery was taking a dump till it cleared up this week.

I'm having exactly the same problem OP.

Over the last couple of days my N5 has been draining lightning fast = today after unplugging at 8am it is now down to 33% only 2.5hrs later. Yesterday was similar, after plugging in around 5.30pm for a booster charge, I was down to 6% by 9.30/45pm

I also had problems yesterday.I just don't get the need to keep changing things around when nothing's broken grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Same story here. Battery at 97% this morning after all night in sleep mode (unplugged). An hour later, after doing 'lite' stuff, it was down to 15%! Usually that would have only drained 5% of the battery! On checking battery status, it says Google Play Services is at 53% usage, yet the app is not even open. Nothing is downloading and a reboot does nothing. Coincidentally, Gmail had a major update and it started draining after I accessed my 'new and improved' Gmail. Hmmmm...

So, Google had some major upgrades yesterday, and I think something's afoot.

Google play services comprises a wide variety of things on your phone, from location services and reporting to push notifications for gmail, hangouts, G+, etc. It's always open and always running.

Having said that, I haven't seen any massive drains out of my device yet. I'll keep an eye on it today and see what happens.
