Hey guys this is an updated version of Handcent SMS that I skinned. If you want the original one, go here: http://androidforums.com/htc-droid-eris/61160-handcent-sms-themed.html

Updates 6/9/2010:
-REMOVED ADS! :D
-Optimized all png's so app runs faster and is more lightweight.

Updates 6/5/2010:
-Updated to Handcent version 3.0.4.

Updates 5/03/2010:
-Changed all text entry boxes to stock Android.
-Changed top bar to white.
-Changed all top bar icons to stock Android look.
-Changed send button to grey and made it square rather than rectangle.

By the way, nothing will be changed with the send button unless you go into bubble settings > scroll all the way down and uncheck start lines of editor box so that it changes to 1. Then it will look like mine.

Also, I'm using Android conversation style, a white background for my bubble settings, and the iPhone theme.

NOTE: If you change the theme to Hero style, nothing will be changed except the text box. Also, you must uninstall and previous version of Handcent and Handcent font packs, and install this for it to work. If you are updating from any of my previous custom versions, download it from the link with your browser on your phone, and install from the downloads list. It will save all your settings and install the new version.

ONE MORE THING: YOU CANNOT install any font packs after installing this custom version because they are signed differently, since I had manually resigned it. HOWEVER, I have resigned all the font packs to go with this. If anyone specifically needs a certain font pack, post it or PM me and I will send you the link.

And here's the Swype themed version of Handcent:

Since it seems like you have made a pretty decent variety of themes/updates, do you think it would be possible to make a swype themed one? I like the blue/grey/black theme of the swype keybord, and I think that handcent skinned to have the 'swype blue' borders (instead of orange) and a few other colors changed around would look nice.

Just the basic swype colors to make it look clean.

By the way, I am currently using your original handcent, it's nice =D

That shouldn't be too hard. Do you want the blue color that you see when you swipe, or the dark blue of the caps key, search key, etc? Or the grey keys color?

Sorry about the quick ms paint mockup, but something like this:
Swype trail blue for text box outlines
swype navy blue for send button
swype grey for all the grey areas - (didn't do in paint) the grey from the letters

Edit: I don't know if you can sort of 'fade it' like the swype skin is standard (lighter on top, darker on the bottom) if that's easy for you to do then that would be cool. Couldn't really do it on paint though :)

Awesome. :D I'm sure a lot of other swype users would think this is amazing. Also, you should try swype, it's awesome. Just give it at least 2 days to get used to.

Haha, nah I've tried it. It's not that I'm slow at it, I think it's awesome and I can type really quick on it. It's just that I'm REALLY REALLY fast with a qwerty keyboard. Like the phone never keeps up with me. Haha.

I had the same problem, it would lag out trying to keep up with how fast I would type. I'd have to wait for it to catch up, it was very annoying. Anyway, I am looking foreward to the 'Swype' theme, I'll be keeping an eye out for it.

In case I miss it, maybe shoot me a pm when you finish =D

Wow, I didn't know it was that easy to do.

That's awesome, I guess I'll just keep this open and f5 ever once in a while.

It's Smart Keyboard Pro. Amazing app. Best keyboard replacement out there. It's not on the Market for 2.1 leakers, but it's in the SlideME Market.

Alright, nevermind. Gonna be harder than I thought. Ran into some trouble get the .9 PNG's to work right. I should have it at least by tomorrow, if I don't get finished tonight. Sorry man.

It's all good man. There's no need to be sorry, your doing me and the community an awesome favor, your not on any sort of deadline :p

The keyboard lag is the reason why I switched to Swype. I also can type really fast with a QWERTY keyboard, but the lag makes me want to break my phone in half.

If you go really fast and then stop, it was so slow for me it was like a ghost was just typing. I even had to watch the deletes and I made during a sentence...so annoying.

Well I'm telling you guys, Smart Keyboard Pro is awesome. It's the only usable keyboard for the Eris, IMO. It's really fast, multi-touch, and really customizable. Not trying to be a salesman, but it's a great fast keyboard. It has an HTC IME skin, iPhone skin, Android, and other themes too.

I downloaded it, but i have yet to see multi-touch on 2.1, is there a way to turn it on, or a setting perhaps?

That's the quick compose box. If you go into your Handcent settings, scroll way down and check the setting called quick compose. Then long press the search key on your phone, and select Handcent quick compose.

Haha, I could teach you if you want. It's not too difficult. You just need to have a few tools like the Android SDK, know how to do a few commands, and edit some PNGs in Photoshop. Lol :D

I have the sdk up and running, and I'm slowly learning basic commands. Don't have photoshop though...

Edit: I would like to learn!
