The Force Awakens

Looks great visually. A lot more real and tangible than the prequels.

Don't care for the weird lightsaber. The voice over was cheesy as hell too.

The bit with the X-wings flying over the water looks bad ass. The light saber hilt is definitely gimmicky. I can't think of how someone would use that to their advantage.

^^I knew you would've.

:D
I just watched a couple times on the XboxOne so I could see it super-sized.

I'm still in shock it's really happening. It was just talk till I saw footage, like it wasn't real yet. Now.... It's gonna be a long year. Can't wait for more trailers

While it wouldn't be great writing, part of me wishes they would bring back Windu(hey, he could have survived that fall), give him a jheri curl and give the movie an R-Rating. I would see that movie a dozen times.

So.. .there are now 4 Star wars films?

(or is this another fan-fiction production like the phantom menace? ;) )

Disney is going to run Star Wars into the ground. SW is supposed to be an event, not a movie every year. Almost have to be better than the prequels, though.

I'm open to the idea that some of the Jedi might be experimenting with different design ideas. Remember that weirdo double-ended one Darth Maul used to good effect?
I thought Darth Maul's double saber was awesome when I saw episode 1 in theaters. It's used to good effect because the fights are choreographed. In reality your reach would be a lot shorter than someone with a sword, which would be a big disadvantage.

Having a hilt would be handy. I think the debate was whether the beam started at the main blade, or at the end of the little hilt piece which could be cut through.

I trust Disney to make a sh!tload of money by pandering to the lowest common denominator with plenty of explosions and quick-cut indecipherable fight scenes, plot and character development be danmed. If one villain is good, three or four must be better. At this point I don't care if I ever see another superhero movie again. I'll give Star Wars a chance, the trailer is interesting and I did like Star Trek, but a new Star Wars every year is a bit much.

I'm expecting the something very similar to the Star Trek movies. Since J.J. Abrams is a Star Wars fan, I'm hoping he'll try to match the tone of the original trilogy. We still don't know much about the side movies.

I don't think that they're going to get crazy with the explosions and indecipherable fight scenes(I'm guessing you're thinking Transformer style? If so, I agree that those are annoying to watch). Those are usually the territory of CGI junkies. JJ is moving to more practical effects, and with that, I think the screen will be a little less busy.

Yeah, I'm with you guys on that. Abrams wouldn't have been my first choice, but I think this first one will probably be a good movie. My concern is more long term, will a movie every year, plus TV, cartoons, games, etc lead to overexposure. I'd hate to see Star Wars get to the point of eye rolling, "great, more Star Wars". yawn
