Help Android security for Web browsing

My phone is a much an older version, 2.3. I am worried about the security of my phone, and would like to continue using it, so if I use anot up to date browser, like opera, will my phone be safe for web browsing? This is not in regard to apps, I have no use for mosteoporosis of them, other than the browser I only use the Gmail app, but just if I use it to browse the web.

How do you mean by secure? Viruses etc?

Essentially, as long as you're not visiting nefarious sites, or installing anything from nefarious sites & you're careful with the links you follow from emails etc, you should be fine.

By secure, I mean ability for code in Web pages to harm my phone, or pull data from it. Nefarious Web pages aside, I should have asked if usinhe an older version opens me up to any code in Web pages that newer versions aren't weak to, or if it is just the browser that affects Web page vulnerability.
