Help Multiple emails in 1 single Icon.

Guys, I am new to the Android World. I cam from Blackberry and even though I did not like the new OS 10 from BB, I do like how my Bold 9900 behaved... until it started going crazy that is.

Anyways, I have been reading a lot and googling many of the features this new Nexus 5 have but one of the things I miss is the way my blackberry notify me of my emails and I am going to try to explain here to see if perhaps there is an app I can download that does this.

I have 4 emails that I installed on my BB Bold (1 gmail, 1 comcast and 2 work related emails). I was able to install them within 1 single icon and all emails were dumped there in recent order and I loved it.

Now, I have an Email Icon on the main page (so to speak) but I have to make multiple choices or touches to get to each different email to read the most recent emails... not liking that very much.

So, am I going to have to get used to this method or is there an app that can do this similar to how BB did it?

I assume you're using the standard Gmail app since it handles all types of email accounts. Unfortunately, it does not have a unified, aka combined, inbox showing all incoming mail in one place.

There are plenty of email apps that do, such as the free K9, or my favorite, AquaMail which is $5.
 
Ah, I understand, it seems there is a money grabbing app on android for almost everything you need to do... I gotta start learning that.

Anyways, before I do... say I want to try that Free K9, am I going to have a conflict or issue migrating the accounts I have already setup on the phone to this K9 or it will find it on its own as soon as I install it?

Oh and also, if this is not too much to ask... how do I "mark all email as Read" on my Nexus 5? surely android does not want me to go 1 by 1?
 
1. Not really a money grabbing app for everything you do. It just differs per manufacturer. Samsung, Sony and HTC for example has their own email apps that come with the phone that has a combined inbox. Marking all emails read also differs depending on the app you choose to use. Some have that option, others may not.

Hi, you can set your gmail account to 'fetch' pop mail from up to five other mail accounts. All mail will then appear in your gmail inbox. Gmail also makes it easy to manage multiple mail as far as deleting and 'make read/unread' etc.

This may work for you - I have used it successfully.

You have to access the gmail settings using a PC/Laptop to set it up.

Sorry, perhaps not money hungry but now full off pop-up ads that appear everytime I try to use one of these apps. something to get used to I guess.

Perhaps this fetch feature could work but then, what would it happen on my office PC? I don't want all emails coming in to 1 inbox because there I use Outlook and I have it setup the way I want to.

Unless this is a feature specifically for mobiles? if so, that may work.

I gotta admit though, changes don't play very well with me but I am guessing that in a week's time, I might not fight it as hard as I am doing it now LOL.

It has nothing to do with your computer. You can use anything on your computer for emails. Good luck.

It isn't specifically for mobiles so I guess it wouldn't suit the way you handle your mail. If you set it up then whether you use PC or mobile to access your gmail account all mail would be in the gmail inbox.
 
I also use Outlook 2010. Whatever setup you do on your phone won't affect the pc. On both devices, integration happens on device level, not affecting the servers. Basically, they wont even know the other exists.

Setting up gmail to fetch mail from other accounts is at server level so the OP would have to change the way he currently handles mail or he will end up with duplicate mail, and he's said he doesn't want all mail in one inbox.

Not sure why you'd even bother to make Gmail fetch email when the Gmail app can handle multiple accounts, but yeah, fetching is an exception.

Because using fetch, all mail is in one place - replicating what the OP had with Blackberry.

The new gmail app multiple account option creates separate accounts within the gmail app which isn't quite the same and requires going into each account which the OP "didn't like very much".

MailDroid also has a unified inbox.

Changing everything to fit into Gmail is really square peg round hole imo.

And yeah - the Nexus has the basic functions. If you want more, get a phone with more features or add features via apps.
 
OK, so after checking out a few apps I decided to go with WiseMail, simple and it gives you a choice of having it like I have now and Unified... Great!

Well, no, not really because after a while, gmail notifications are also being pushed by my gmail app on the phone so now I have to deal with duplicate emails... those pushed by Wisemail and the duplicates push by Gmail.

so I went to settings but there is nothing useful there, at least, not that I can see. I also went to gmail settings and nothing there either. I even tried to Block gmail and/or disable/deactivate and I get a message saying that if I do this other apps might misbehave so I am afraid to do so for fear of breaking something that I won't be able to fix that easily.

In short, where do I go to stop gmails from being pushed to the Nexus 5 default and let WiseMail handle everything for me.

Oh, btw, I also checked the wisemail settings and did not find anything that would permit me to block the notifications being pushed by the gmail default app of the phone (built-in app I believe its called?)

Open Gmail app, tap the 3 lines on the upper left corner. Scroll down to settings and select that. Select your account name, then scroll down to data usage. Turn off 'sync Gmail'.
 
On my Galaxy Nexus, I used the stock mail app to see all my email accounts, Gmail, Yahoo and Exchange by date Am I correct that on my new Droid Turbo with 4.4.4 there is no stock app that will perform that simple task?
 
I don't know what the included email app on your Droid Turbo is. It's probably the stock Android 4.4.4 app which does have a combined inbox, but it could be something provided by Motorola. So it probably has a combined inbox but IDK for sure.

Anyway, your Turbo will sometime soon get an upgrade from 4.4.4 KitKat to 5.0 Lollipop. When it does, the stock email app will be depreciated, basically replaced by a new Gmail app which in Lollipop can now handle all types of accounts. IOW the new Gmail app will no longer be Gmail-only like the old one.

However, unlike the old, stock email app, the new Gmail app does not have a combined inbox. So if your Turbo's existing email app is effectively replaced by the Gmail app after the Lollipop upgrade and a unified inbox is important to you, then you will need to install an app with a unified inbox such as AquaMail, K9, Maildroid, etc.

I hope I made this clear...

Crashdamage. Thank you. That was very clear and what I had feared after looking around. I did not realize how lucky I was that Google stopped upgrading the Galaxy Nexus! One of the most basic things to do with a mobile phone is to look what emails have arrived since the last time one checked. I have always taken it for granted that I could look in the mail app and do that. I should not have to download an off-brand app to perform that basic function. Not enough to make me get an I-Phone, but damn close.
 
OK, just to be perfectly clear, remember the new Gmail app will be able to handle all your accounts, so they can still all be in one app. It will not have an option for a unified inbox, where all incoming mail in the same inbox. IOW each account will have its own separate inbox. You only need another email app if the unified inbox is a must for you. Or, of course, if you need some other functionality not in the Gmail app.
 
Yes, I want to see all of my emails at once, just like I could on the Nexus and can on my I-Pad. I may decide to switch accounts and use the gmail app, but it is annoying that there is no unified view in the gmail app and that I cannot put my gmail account into the mail app. I am not sure what the point is of creating these limits to what one can do. In other words, these are deleted, formerly standard features and it does not appear that anything is accomplished on the positive side. Thank you again.

You CAN put your Gmail accounts in the standard email app. What you could not do is put non-Gmail accounts in the Gmail app, it was Gmail-only. With the new Gmail app in Lollipop 5.0, that changes. The standard email app is depreciated, basically replaced by the new Gmail app, which CAN handle all types of accounts. But, it lacks the unified inbox of the old standard email app.

Please, go back and reread my earlier posts carefully. Feel free to ask about anything you're fuzzy about. There are no stupid questions.

BTW, Android has some really fine email clients available, such as AquaMail, which can be configured about any way you could want, and several others, free and paid.
 
I appreciate your help. I have added my email accounts to the email app a number of times as my Galaxy Nexus required a few resets to keep staggering along. Now, on the Droid Turbo, when I click "add accounts," it says, "use the gmail app to add your account." All other mail accounts can be added from that screen, and I added a Yahoo account and my exchange account from work. The gmail app just adds my gmail account to the gmail app, not the mail app, so I cannot figure out how to get my gmail account into the mail app. Maybe I have missed something, but I have tried everything.
 
Try adding the Gmail account to the standard email app by choosing to do it by manual entry instead of automatic setup. You'll need the Gmail server settings. Here's one of many places to find them. Use IMAP unless you have a particular reason to use POP3.

Sorry I can't give exact instructions but I use a different phone and AquaMail. Your user manual should be helpful.
 
I think the mail app sees the gmail address and refuses to connect. It says the address and password are incorrect, but they are not. I wonder what the point is. Thanks for your help.
 
After being able to stop gmail from pushing duplicate notifications on my Nexus 5, I am a happy camper... WiseMail is extremely simple, yet intuitive and the unification of all my emails is what hooked me to it.

One thing I do recommend is either uninstall the emails that you have installed with gmail app or remember to turn off sync gmail and the other emails installed as well.
