Sorry! Yes that works but it takes the spontinaety out of a situation, then I have to turn it up again!
My previous mogo g (same operating system 4.4.4) didn't make a shutter sounds at all, regardless of the volume control?
I presume I set it up like that but I can't remember!

Try Camera 360, it's pretty good.

You might try it anyway - the sound setting is obvious and it only works if the underlying system supports it.
If it doesn't work, you'll know that you're chasing a dead end.

Aren't some localities requiring that the camera have an audible "click"? Some privacy thing?

I'm not aware of anywhere in Europe passing it.
Created a big stink a few years ago, tempest in a teacup. I don't worry about it.
By now, creeps are using apps that defeat the sound and display a false app face when caught.
Impossible to get candid baby or pet pictures with the clicking sounds.
I think any camera purchased has a 'shutter click' enabled by default just in case!
I wonder if things might change with Lollipop? My previous moto g (3g) had a shutter click which I turned off, although I can't find where I did it if I wanted it back!

Not sure when the option was removed, but now I just root my device and a simple change to a file that Mr. Lucky posted above works
Or use a better camera lol. There's a reason they exist and it's usually better picture quality. Turning off the sound is just a bonus.
