Help worth buying after replacing stock rom?? help pls

rabbit hole

Lurker
hi, im new to this so please understand...im about to purchase a samsung note 4 from a friend, while hard resetting the phone its took so long that seemed like it wasnt moving anymore. hung up i think. So tech advice was to change the rom to a stock rom only. This i assume will void the warranty from local phone service carrier...my question is, will it still be good to purchase a unit that had the rom replaced by local techs and is there any cons to this little incident? thank you very much!

If it's a stock ROM being loaded by SES at Best Buy or a Carrier store, it shouldn't void the warranty. They'll be loading it with the official software. If it's a third party repair shop doing it, they may be loading an unofficial ROM which will void the warranty. If the phone runs fine and you're getting a good deal on it, there's no real downside to having a phone that's had a ROM loaded or re-loaded onto it.

First let's find out if the Note was really hung up. When you said it didn't seem like it was moving, was it 2 minutes? 5? Sometimes depending on the Android version and the hardware it can take up to 25 minutes to fully reset, especially if there was a system update in there.

If you can still get into recovery, I'd try another factory reset and this time, even though it might look like it hung up, let it go for up to 30 minutes. Make sure it's on a charge when you do as the reset process can use some serious juice.

Thanks guys for the replies, finally got it to a repair place, (im in a place where good service is hard to find) and they didnt end up changing the ROM, instead what i understood was that they had to fix/re install the OS. Yes i think it hung up @Lunatic 59 coz it was on reset for 2hours and when they finally got it out of reset it didnt reset at all so the repair guy did the reset himself and it worked! :) so now im not so sure but almost positive that i still have the warranty and i hope everything goes well.
