Hi guys I'm wanting to get my daughter a large screen tablet but not sure which one to look for so hoping to get some advice on them
I don't have a big budget so I have to look at used tablets
would like a larger screen as she likes to watch videos was hoping it would have usb as she quite often will be getting movies and other things from myself and friends (is this the only way to upload data quickly?)
3g connectivity would be good or she has a Samsung s2 phone and could maybe use phone tethering when outside?
not worried about the make as name brands can cost more
well any advice would be good please as not really up on tablets at all I'm more of a computer guy
I'm in the uk
Thanks if you can help :)

How big of a screen would you like? I've only used N7's (7") and my wife's Tab 4 8.1 (8.1") and for me, both have good balance in holding with good screen sizes. Admittedly, I haven't used a larger device, such as an iPad or 10.1" tablet, so I don't know if I'd like them better.

7" is perfect IMO.

I had a 10" Asus Transformer before I picked up the first gen N7 and it is totally unweildly by comparison.

What's your budget exactly? Asus do a range of tablets called Memo iirc, they are quite good. I also got my wee boy a Hudl for Xmas the year before and it's been great. The 2014 model is even better by all accounts.

tethering from cell phone .. does not matter if the tablet has any type of wireless service.

I had an 7in.. and just got an 8in. way better.

I just got a just got a used tablet.. was in research.
compare an old 2013 Samsung note 8 vs a brand new Samsung galaxy tab 8.4
I found out.. the Note8 had just as good and better specs. with a pen!!

craigslist has them for around $150.
but I got mine for $130.

I got a Note8 from ATT. so that I can put my SIM from my ATT smartphone into it and it works!!
and tethering is easy too.

I also was able to plug in a USB drive.. using the RIGHT cable.. and it works.
but you can use WIFI transfer apps.. that is better!

many of my family members.. have tried the cheap ... low budget android devices.
NO one has been happy with them for longer than a few months.
they don't stand up to kid's abuse.
the electronics fail very quickly.
batteries go out fast..
never get any support from vendors.

thanks guys will take a look now . watched some reviews on some of the unbranded tabs though and some come up really good, ok not as fast or as good a screen but still a lot of little and still have a years warrant

"not bad for the money"...

this is how they get sales... looks and smells like a deal.
but I don't know anyone that has been happy with these devices.

a used "high-end" quality device .. from a good manufacture/brand. would be the best.

cheapo budget devices..
use crap CPUs/brains
low memory RAM (512MB) .. normal is 1.5GB to 2 GB
Screens are made of hard plastic .. scratches easy
thin cheap glass... cracks easy
low resolution
etc...etc...

If that is the tablet you linked I was looking at that tablet for any additional information. I wasn't even able to find the manufacturer (I assume it's the seller but they don't disclose it). If it isn't them, then who do you contact for factory warranty?

That specs, though not world beaters, seem reasonable, but, do the chips play well together? Do the drivers have any conflicts? How well are they assembled? We don't necessarily want to dissuade you on this, or say no track record for a manufacturer means they stink. We have seen too many users buy unbranded devices to save a few dollars and regret it.:(

it says on the add 12 MONTHS UK WARRANTY - UK SERVICE CENTRE will email them to find out if its them.

I do hear what your saying though will be looking at the Samsung tab 2 as well but if I buy one of them used I wont have any warranty at all

Very true, but there would be available factory firmware and utilities for troubleshooting plus tons of members here with experience in helping folks use those utilities to fix things. If it is a used samsung or asus that is a year or two old, then any normal thing that would go wrong usually happens soon out of the box.

used tablets .. may have no warranty.. but they have a lot of support.

I hear a lot of new cheapo .. cant find the manufacture to respond to warranty issues.
and forget support.

Thanks guys for all your advice.

Have decided to go with the 32GB 10.1" inch A31S Quad Core WIFI Android 4.4 KITKAT Allwinner tablet in the end.
(put the complete name and model so it comes up in Google search)

I emailed the company on ebay and got this message below which says they deal with any faults themselves and are offering a 2 year warranty on this tablet as a promotion.

They have 100% feedback and large amount of sales so going to give them and allwinner a chance.
maybe this will be a good review opportunity as I do plan on updating this thread to let anyone reading it in the future a chance to see what there really like for a cheap budget Tablet.

I paid £70 for it but this was with a free Bluetooth keyboard and case and 2 year warranty which if it all works ok I think is a real bargain. (fingers crossed lol)

if it don't work well I got 2 years warranty.

will keep in touch :)
