Help Faulty Power Button

So my N5 has finally decided it doesn't like the power button, and acts like it's being held down if I use it at all. At the moment I'm making do with volume buttons and gravity-screen but ideally I'd like to fix it.

I bought it last February so it's still under LG's warranty, but is there a way to fix this myself? I'd rather not have to go through the "ordeal" of switching back to my HTC Sensation :S

Another thing to mention is that I think I might have gotten the phone wet at one point, as the indicator on the back of the phone (near the top) is pink. The headphone jack is a bit messed up as well, but that started before the water.

I think this is becoming a common problem with older Nexus 5's. This has got to be the 9th report of this issue on these forums I've seen, not including my GF's Nexus 5 which has the same issue :( I'm not quite sure how to fix it, but sending it in for replacement through Google might be the best option. I know last time I had an RMA, they sent me the replacement device first and I mailed the defective one back in the box it came in.

Crap, the 9th time? I can confirm that this was the first version of it, so I guess that's one of the reasons they altered the power button with the second revision.

I get what you're saying but I bought my N5 from CPW (saving £70 was maybe still worth it idk) so I'd have to deal with LG directly. Hopefully they can cross-ship me a new one, that would be fab!

I'll give them a ring on Monday, see what they say.

edit: actually I think I can go through CPW to get a fix, but I'd have to see if they'd give me a replacement one. Also I'd need a parent's permission and they're a 3 hour drive from me right now. Yay.

Welcome to the club. Mine was just as annoying as your dilemma. I got mine back in Oct 2013 and it gave out just last week. I kept my phone clean of hazards but maybe it was exposed to steam a few times. The problem is now minimal for me because of the way I've set my ROM up. Volume rockers can wake the device and double tapping the status bar turns the screen off. I've also downloaded Franco's SimpleReboot app to access recovery or to shut off the device.

Edit: there's no way to fix it, I literally opened up my phone (warranty expired so why not) and took out the motherboard to clear it for debris inside but it seems that it's the board or a bad switch.

If your device is still under warranty then RMA is your best option. I did one and it was hassle free. They sent me a new device then gave me a week to ship my defective one back to them. Simple, easy, effective.

Just a thought that popped into my head - did you have to do/say anything to get a replacement rather than sending it off for repairs? I rang up CPW but the person on the phone just transfered me to repairs, who told me to come into the shop and they'll send it off to LG for me.

Update: LG don't give out refurbs, only repairs :/

I guess I'll go into a CPW store as well, just to see if I could get a replacement or temporary phone
