Help My wifi keeps reconnecting...

Tarryn

Lurker
The little message saying "Now connected to Wi-Fi network xyz" constantly appears on my phone about 3 times a minute. It happens at friends' houses as well. For some reason it seems to be losing signal and reconnecting.

My battery used to last ages but now it drops 50% over night when I am obviously not even using it and I think it must be this constant need to connect to the wi-fi.

Any suggestions?

Just turn off your wi-fi and turn it back on when you change locations. I get this problem at home. I have an extender which works fine but if I move somewhere closer to the router I get a similar problem to you until I reset it

Thank you for the reply. I have tried that. Not directly off and on again, but just getting so frustrated at the draining battery that I turn wifi off. When I later turn it back on again, the problem is still there. However, I will try what you said. What has helped in the mean time is that I have turned off that "smart switch" between mobile data and wifi. It seems to be a bit over sensitive. Perhaps you can try that too as a solution to having to keep turning your wifi off and on again?

Hi. I may have just found solution . I was having the exact same problem after last week's android update. I tried EVERYTHING. Finally, I turned OFF the "smart switch" in mobile data settings. My phones signal is very low and I think it is switching back and forth from over the air to wifi. Whatever the cause or reason, turning off the smart switch has resolved my problem.....and I haven't noticed any problems with receiving data as a result. My phone is working fine. Hope this helps!!! :)

Very sorry for multiple posts. Not sure why or how I messed it up. Anyway...if you don't have the "smart switch " or something comparable to that then I don't know how to help you. I thought all phones had that option. And by the way....my phones wifi remains on and no more "wifi is now connected to...." messages anymore. That was soooo annoying. Hope this helps :)

My wife told me she was getting this message yesterday, mind you she's had the thing for two months. I done the same as above and no more message and the phone works fine. S5 running KITKAT 4.4

I am having the same problem with my phone (G S5) 'searching' for a signal when it already has a 'very strong' signal. I have tried everything including turning off the 'smart switch'... it's still scanning every few seconds.

WiFi receivers always scan, regardless of being connected. You won't stop that, it is inherent with the design of the WiFi radios.

The scanning does not disconnect the WiFi signal already in use though. It is just logging the environment in case the current signal gets lost. It knows where to jump to next.

Check out "Wifi Analyzer"

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer

See if you're on a crowded channel, swipe left/right for different screens.

Even though data are kept separate when a channel is shared, radio interference is still radio interference and a crowded channel can cause a staccato rather than continuous connection.

In such a case, set your router to a less crowded channel rather than letting it auto select.
