I was wondering has the metropcs samsung s5 got the update yet, and was also thinking of rooting my phone as well or should i jst wait?

No 5.0 update for Metro as of yet, although it is out for T-Mo so Metro might be forthcoming. However, with all the reported issues from people who got Lollipop upgrades and want to go back to KitKat I'd say you're not missing out on anything.
As for rooting that is a personal decision based on your wants/needs for the phone, willingness to tinker and risk tolerance in case something goes wrong. There is plenty of info here on rooting the S5, for a Metro version you would follow the T-Mo instructions as they are essentially the same-

Do some reading in the above linked root sub-section and decide if it's something you'd really want to go ahead with.

Very, very, few from those on stock Samsung firmware for T-Mobile (USA) in comparison to, say, Verizon's own version of Lollipop.

Yes it does seem the Verizon users got the short straw on this one.
But I still don't see anything that compelling about Lollipop that would motivate me to take the upgrade if it becomes available. I'm on stock Metro KitKat rooted, expecting to stay that way.

I am on the latest, OC2, stock, unbranded, Samsung Lollipop firmware and there is no way I would go back to KitKat now. Much faster and lighter on battery usage. As for the U.I., it's a bit like Marmite... either you love it, or you hate it. After nearly 4 months, its grown on me. :)

Good to hear that it's working ok for you. I'll wait to see what people say about the Metro release, if and when it comes out. I need to stay with a stock Metro ROM to maintain wifi calling.
