Help APPs Notifications

jackal43

Newbie
Is it possible to stop notifications of updates of Apps that I do not want ?.
Do I,

UNINSTALL ? / DISABLE ? / Tick/untick notification ?
&, if so, in what order.

Jack A.

To be clear, I assume that you don't want the apps (ie they are pre-installed) rather than want the apps but don't want notifications.

If you don't want the apps at all then uninstall if you can, disable otherwise. The first will obviously stop notifications, I think the second should but am not 100% certain.

Turning off notifications will turn them off for all apps. You'll still see the updates listed when you go to the My Apps list in the Play Store. To my mind the downside of that outweighs the upside, and it doesn't address the bit that annoys me more (their being in the list). In the old days you could detach them if rooted so that you didn't see notifications, but the way the Play Store now works you cannot.

I am annoyed by update notifications of pre-installed apps - especially those I don't want or need e.g. Google:Korean keyboard input.
Initially turning off notifications would be good, but removal of unwanted apps would give an added bonus of increased storage.

Removing updates to unwanted pre-installed apps saves space. Clearing data for them does as well. Uninstalling the app itself actually doesn't, because these apps are part of the ROM and so live in the /system partition, which is separate from the partition you can install apps to.

Thanks for your replies.....
Do you mean that if I disable the app and untick notifications, then I would no longer be prompted to update ?

I hope that disabling alone would do it. I've just disabled an app which I want to use but not update, and the update disappeared from the "My Apps" section of the Play Store. Unticking notifications will stop them for all apps.

However, I don't generally have a lot of disabled apps because I'm rooted and quite happy to uninstall unwanted system apps (because I know what precautions to take and how to fix things if I mess up). So it's possible that I've only disabled things which don't get a lot of updates and hence not experienced some behaviour.

Thanks for your suggestions.
As a relative newcomer to Tablets, I am a bit wary of altering anything - Might have a go when I pluck up the courage.
