I missed the Donut update

Hi all. I got a popup on my magic (vodafone uk) last night for my donut update. Went ahead with it but when the phone rebooted the installation stopped and I had to reboot again so the installation failed. Anyone have a clue how I can get the OTA update sent to me again. And has anyone had the same problem.

Really disappointed the update didnt work but hopefully you guys can help me out to get the problem sorted

Hi Delboy :)

Give this a Try , I got it off the T-mobile forums. Worth a try.

Tap on Dialer - to open the dialer screen.
From the dialer type *#*#checkin#*#* (that is *#*#2432546#*#*)
After a few seconds, you will receive an alert notification, accessible from the homescreen window shade "checkin result success".[i get this]
Return to the homescreen.
Press the Menu key.
Select Settings.
Scroll down, and select About phone.
Select System updates.

If this still doesn't work , Be patient as I'm sure it will come again shortly ;)

Not a problem you can do it manually...

here is the US version: http://getyourdroidon.com/builds/ota/signed-kila-DRC83-from-CRC1.c41b93c1.zip

here is the EU version: http://android.clients.google.com/up...7.a7b90b4e.zip


once you have it rename it to update.zip and copy it to your sd card...
once that is done reboot your phone holding home+power buttons it will take you to the recovery screen...
once there alt+s installs the update... allow it to complete, reboot and your set...

Unfortunately Carl, when I check the status it says my phone is up to date even though its still on 1.5.

Does my phone need to be rooted to do your method noonehereyet?
 
Just tried your method noone and got the following after apply sdcard:update.zip

Veryifying update package...
E:No signature (297 files)
E:Verification failed

Installation aborted.

Any more ideas please?
 
the phones not rooted. tried doing it ages ago but had no luck at all

any other suggestions and I dont want to miss out on the donut update
 
Are you sure you have the correct Build number for the File? {I've seen differnet variations of Update files today} the one recommended by noonehereyet is for build number CRC37

I think you should be CRC1???
 
I have no idea unfortunately. I am kinda a novice at this as Ive only had the phone for a month so only know the basics. I am always happy to learn from those more experienced though

the link I gave him is directly from google and CRC1 is the build prior to CRC37....
 
@delboypb to check your build number go to :

Settings -> About phone -> Scroll down to the bottom -> What is the build number?

If it CRC37 that is the correct file, if it is different we may have to search for a new file compatible with your build. Just making sure you got the right one as that could have been the issue you got them error messages.

@ noonehereyet Mainly all the people I know which have the stock vodafone UK {32b} were CRC1. I'm just double checking anyway to help to make sure it is the correct one so delboy can have his Donut :D . Their are different variations direct from Google too like this one for CRC1 .... :)
 
I am still getting the same error as previously and the installation aborts. Any more ideas? Im getting a bit worried that I wont be able to get donut at all
 
Well sorry than Delboy , Looks like you'll have to wait if you wanna keep everything official {ROM's , Rooting etc} , keep your Warranty etc . :(

But don't worry , I'm sure you'll have it shortly! :)
 
bugger. Just noticed on that xda lkink you gave me that someone has the same issue as me so ill give them a shout to see if they managed to resolve their problem. Thanks for your help Carl. Its much appreciated
 
Why can't I get this update on my orange hero?

It's the bloody flagship android device in the UK, why are we being sidelined?

Can I do it manually? Is there a MCR that incorporates it?
 
@delboypb No Probelm :D Just sorry I couldn't get you your Donut! Your not the only one experiencing the same error. I've been on a number of forums and see some people are successful and some get your error even though their phones are basically the same. Maybe certain phones are simply temperamental .......

This has been out for a while though - before donut started it's roll out.

I would LOVE it if I was wrong though.........can anyone confirm?
 
its frustrating as the phone only really appealed with the added functionality of donut. Fingers crossed ill get it soon
 
Just got my OTA update again and it failed again for with the same error as I got when I tried to do it manually i.e.:

Im guessing that there is something wrong with my phone. Ive done a factory reset etc and I am still having the same issue. Can someone please help as I now cannot see a way of me having donut on my phone.

Carl C, I understand your trying to help but the CRC1 is NOT the latest build nor is it the EU build... CRC1 was actually a US build... if you have issues or questions you can find the legit roms and most rooted roms on my wiki... or pm me so we do not have to publicly contradict each other while trying to help noobs...
 
@delboypb Your the second person today with the exact same problem. May I recommend you send your phone to Vodafone for repair and they will flash your phone with the latest Firmware being Donut :)

I have build number 2.73.110.26 CL#69351 and still cannot get the dount update. I'm on a G2 on uk t-mobile.

I've been having the same error message about signatures when i try to manually install the update. Should the EU version linked above work for this build number?

I also can't find where the check for updates bit is? I've tried the #*#*checkin*#*# but it doesn't do anything (nothing in the notification bar etc).
