Help Text messaging

Newbie
Hello. My first post so here goes. I recently bought a Samung Galaxy Centura Android 4.04. It has lots of things on it that I am unfamiliar with. I have been getting some text messages but I am not sure how to read them. On my old phone when I got a text message all I had to do was open the phone and the message was on the screen. The Galaxy Centura isn't like that. If someone could tell me what to do it would be greatly appreciated. And if it takes many steps is there a way the message appears when phone is turned on? Thanking you in advance.

Welcome to the forum :)

I don't know Samsung's software, but in general you have a couple of options:

1) tap the icon for the messaging app. By default most manufacturers put that in the "dock" at the bottom of the homescreens, but of course you can put it anywhere you want. Or open the app drawer (little icon that looks like a grid of squares, almost certainly in the dock) and you'll find the message app in there.

2) tap on the notification pop-up or the notification in the pull-down notification area and it will take you to the message app.

If you find that the message app doesn't do everything you want, you can always just install a different one from the Play Store. But it sounds like it's best you learn how to use this one first rather than complicate things further.

I want to thank you for your quick reply. I believe I have figured out what to do and how to get my voice mail or messages. When I turn on my phone it goes to my home screen. If I take my finger to the top of the screen and pull down a black screen appears and if I have voice mails it lets me know. Then all I have to do is touch the voice mail message, it will dial and ask me for my password. Once entered I just follow the prompts. And voila. There may be other ways but this one I found to be easy and not that many steps.

I think this thread can now be closed. If I have any more problems I will ask again. And if I have any more questions I know where to come and ask. Thank you again for all your help.

No problem. :)

If you lose the notification for any reason (e.g. accidentally clear it), voicemail can also be accessed through your phone's dialer: if the phone knows your voicemail number (which it must for the notification to work) pressing and holding the "1" key on the keypad will take you to voicemail on most phones. If you look at that key on the phone keypad there should be a voicemail symbol on it as well as the number 1.
