Help Lock Screen Notifications on Version 5.0

I just did the software upgrade for my Galaxy S5. I now have Version 5.o on my phone.

I am not liking the changes for notifications. It used to be that only TEXTS and VOICEMAIL notifications appeared in the lock screen. If you had other apps with notifications turned on they would appear in the bar at the top. Then you could drag it down and address the notification or clear it/them.

The private content feature for notifications doesn't provide the privacy I want. For instance, I want my anti-virus software (AVG app) to be able to notify me in the top panel it is scanning my phone. However when I go to unlock my phone, I don't need the notification to show up front and center.

Is there a way to control which applications can notify at the lock screen and which will only notify at the top panel as I described earlier in this post?

There should be an option for "notification manager" There you should be able to pick and choose what apps show up and what apps to notify you on the lock screen.

I tried that. Under Settings --> Sounds and Notifications --> Application notifications you can control settings for each app.

Here's where it gets confusing and doesn't do what I want it to do.

If I have it block all notifications for an app like Instagram no notifications will show up in the lock screen or top panel. If I unblock notifications, the only settings I can alter is whether it is "Set as a priority" or not and if the sensitive content will be hidden.

Hiding sensitive content only means that on the lock screen it will show the name of the app. but the content of the notification will be hidden.

I believe those are the only settings. Someone more familiar might be able to help out a little more then I can. I didn't even mess with those settings cause I honestly didn't care. I set the priorities and that was it.

Thanks for your efforts. Do you ever find it annoying that all apps set to display notifications do so on the lock screen and the top panel?

Not really no. They only things that really pop up often are Tapatalk, email, messages and any notifications I allow from Facebook, instagram, Google+ and those aren't very many
