Help Clone s6, need help

So my dad got back from China yesterday, and he got me a clone s6 Sm-g920f, I knew it was a clone but he picked the best one he could. He knew what he was looking for. It's a good copy, physically identical. And the software looks good. The only problem with it is, when I put in a sim and try to make a call is says "mobile network not available". I've tried everything on the Internet such as selecting the network but it won't register. I have dialed *#*#4636#*#* and turned radio off and changed it to GSM auto but no luck. I was thinking that if the hardware is there, and it seems to be, if I could flash a copy of a legitimate copy of Android 5.0 for the s6. I was hoping this would remove any of the Chinese software that was on there. Could anyone please assist me on this? I signed up to this forum just to ask this. So sorry if this is the wrong section.

A few possibilities.

1. It's duff, these knock-offs frequently have quality issues.
2. It's GSM 2G only, and you're on a 3G/4G only carrier. Where are you and what carrier?
3. It's CDMA only, which will only work with China Telecom.

As for firmware upgrades, basically forget it, it's not a Samsung, and so anything that applies to a real S6, does not apply here. It's a counterfeit product from an unknown source, and naturally with anything illegal, the peeps who put these things together prefer to stay very anonymous.

At the moment im using my dads telstra (Australian, just to point out the obvious) sim which i think is 4g. The phone has 2g and 3g options but that might not mean anything. So would changing the firmware not doing anything? i assumed that might be trying to connect to a Chinese network because thats all its programmed to do. But if i put in an offical firmware it might allow it to connect. Also would it brick the phone installing a new firmware built for a sm-g920f because its a fake and might not have the same hardware? I know the hardware is a little off because the camera is worse then my real s3 when it should be 4x better. But except for that it seems like a really high quality knock-off, and i don't see why someone would go to the effort of making a fake look exactly like and then only have 1 thing not work on it, even the heart rate monitor is accurate.

Im planning on buying a new one eventually when i have the money, but i want to try get it working for my dad, he bought my sister a lot of things including a phone (from the same place, which works, although they said it was real, they said mine was fake, it was a samsung duos i think) and he got my sisters boyfriend a phone and a smart watch (same phone as my sisters, same place) both working. and he got me a phone and a watch but only the watch is working at the moment. and my s3 is about to die so soon it will be useless. Anyway im not too bothered, but my dads really disapointed because all i got was a broken phone and a cheap watch

The hardware will be nothing like a Samsung S6 inside, and if you were able to flash Samsung firmware to it (and the tools probably wouldn't let you, as the phone wouldn't respond correctly) it would brick it for certain. Sorry, but seriously the similarities are purely cosmetic - not a single internal component will be the same part that Samsung use.

As we say in the States mate, "it's the thought that counts," so if you do have to take a total dive on this as a phone "phone," I'd just like to point out that you can still give it some use so it's not a total loss. I have a Chinese phone here in Spain that won't work as a phone either, but I use it at home very often for IM apps with my family in the US, as a mini-console to play android games on, and for surfing on the web when I don't feel like turning on the PC or I'm moving around the house. If it's a S6 knock off it's got to have a nice big screen good for doing all that! Good luck, Vin.
