Help Problem downloading Android 5.1 on my Nexus 7

Hi, I've been trying to download the latest update on Android (5.1) on my Nexus 7 but every time I try it keeps showing an Android with it's chest open and the word "error". First it says verified, then downloaded and verified, Installing system update and when I click Restart and Install, the android appears dead with the word error.
Could somebody tell me what can I do to fix this problem?

Is this an OTA download? (sounds like it is) Is it version 5.1 or 5.1.1? What version is the existing install? I was wondering if you have skipped an update somehow.

I think the normal update sequence is
4.4.4
5.0
5.0.2
5.1
5.1.1

Which model of nexus 7 (2012/13)?

Hi, thanks for the reply, My current version is 5.0.2 and the one that I was trying to update was 5.1. I don't remember skipping an update, but at this point, who knows

Well,
5.1.1 was a small bug fix update to 5.1 (9.6Mb) and won't install without 5.1 first.

If you were trying to update from 5.0.2 to 5.1 that is correct.

I think the only thing that may help is to do a factory data reset before trying again. Of course back up all data first.

There are Images available for these official versions so there is more to try if it does not work (but I have only done OTAs with my nexus 12)
