Help Huawei Ascend Plus won't download/update apps

Every time I try to update or download an app it says insufficient storage. I've looked this up before and found it was a problem with Google Play. It said that I needed to erase the updates to Google Play, restart the phone, and let it update again. That worked for a while, but the last time I tried it didn't update. Anybody got any idea how to fix this?

What device are you using?

I'm using a Huawei Ascend Plus (h88c1, I think).[/QUOTE
Go to: settings/storage to see how much internal storage is available. From the specs it looks like the HAP did not include an SD card from the factory. Since almost all(if not all) apps are installed internally you probably will have to move whatever apps you can to an microSD card to free up the internal storage for updates and future app downloads. Your device is expandable to 32 gig but if you are not a phone junkie then a 16gig card should do fine. Good luck.

Thanks, but it's not a problem with my storage. One of the first things I did when I got the phone was put a card in it. I still have plenty of storage left. It seems to be a problem with the Play store.

Doesn't matter if you have a 32GB card or even a 128GB card with nothing in it, if the phone memory is low or insufficient. Apps install to the phone memory and ignores the SD card. You have to manually move the apps to the card if the phone allows it AFTER installation.

Look, it's not a problem with the memory. As I said in my original post, I've looked it up before and it's a problem with Google Play. I can't reupdate it and so I can't update or download anything. What I wanted to know was if there is anyway I can update it manually.

Is this what you've got?

A very budget pre-paid Chinese phone that Walmart sells for $29.99, and it's a similar price pre-paid from China Mobile as well.

The fact is, this $30 phone just does not have much internal storage at all, 1GB in total apparently, with only 300MB usable. This thread on Android Central discusses it.

If Google Play is stating "Insufficient storage" then that's what it is. You managed to clear it once in your first post, but it's apparently filled up again. Adding an SD card, no matter how large, will NOT fix it. Can't really do it "manually", because Google never intended that, it just doesn't have that provision.

Frankly Google intended their stuff to be running on a Nexus 6 or something, which is a $400-$500 phone that has plenty adequate internal storage. In China, budget low internal storage phones aren't so much of a problem, for one there's no Google Play, and secondly many people tend to favour small casual games, around 10MB 20MB or so. But supermarkets and pre-paid carriers like Straight Talk are selling these things with Google, and they don't really care about the user experience and what problems that may arise with them.

FYI suggest have a look at Storage Truth, that will give you an accurate indication about what you've actually got.

Yes, that is the phone I have. However, I know it is not a problem with storage because the very first time I tried to download an app I got the insufficient storage message. I got rid of everything I didn't need and it still gave me the message. I looked at either the Huawei website or the Straighttalk website (I can't remember which now) and it told me how to fix it. I did that and it worked. Every time after that when it gave me the message I first tried clearing space and only erased Google Play updates when that didn't work. Deleting stuff and clearing space does nothing. I could delete everything on my phone and it will still give me that message.

I think your phone not have enough internal memory. move your apps into the sd card. dont uninstal apps only off the updates. you once try rooting your phone

Depends on what you want to try installing. For example, Summoners War (game) has an initial download of only around 50MB from the Play Store. However, the entire game is actually 600MB. The game starts to download on your device, but would then fail when the parameters don't match.

Same goes for several other apps. MS Office app has an initial download size of only 50MB, but when uncompressed becomes 200MB.

So basically, depending on what app you are trying to install, the phone may not really have enough storage. These days, you want to look for phones with at least an advertised 8GB of space, since you'll get around 5GB of useable memory out of that. 300MB user memory wont cut it these days. Heck that's not even enough for Google services updates.

I would techrax that phone.
However, if you like it and want to use it, try getting rid of some factory apps. The #1 factory app on storage consumption is Google App. Indeed it is very useful but in your case I would get rid of it by rooting the phone and removing it with an app. And pretty much everything from google.
Yeah uninstalling the updates would be a better choice than removing factory apps, but its probably going to update it by itself.

disabling wont uninstall the app so it wont free storage. had the same problem with a 1gb internal memory and uninstalling the google app and google music gave me a 120mb free int memory.

Uninstalling the app won't give additional storage as well since it resides in the system partition, and you can't install apps from the Play Store to the system partition.

well i dont quite care at this point if it really clears or not as long as i have free space and it doesnt restore on factory reset im fine

Look, I've got 1.93 GB of free space on my internal storage, with a little more than half of that specifically for apps. With another 2.6 GB of free space on my SD card, which is set as my preferred storage location. With the exception of Shazam and one or two other apps none of the apps I download are over 15 MB once fully installed. As I've already stated, I could delete literally every app from my phone and I would still get that message. Do y'all really think that I would get an "insufficient storage" message and not immediately check the amount of storage left and try uninstalling something? I'm not an idiot. Brand new, fresh out of the box, I installed the SD card and tried to download an app, before I had so much as added contacts, and I got that message. If anybody has any other suggestions as to how I should go about fixing it I would be very much obliged.

You did say that the phone you had was the one mike posted which only had 300mb. Which is why my posts catered to that.

So far I've been only to fix this to clear the Play Store data.
