do you have a phone you are particularly fond of?

In terms of phones in general?

My Nokia N80:

This got it in 2006, was my 1st smartphone and 1st phone I had that supported WiFi, EDGE AND 3G all in one, it was a sheer powerhouse of a thing in its time, with a 259ppi display, 3MP Camera with a Manual Macro Mode switch and Symbian S60v3 OS9.1. I remember getting a 1GB MiniSD for it, filling it with Music, Videos, a Movie (in avi format) and a whole lot of apps such as X-Plore, Opera 8.65, DivX Player etc... It was like a small PC in my palm, there was even a Music conversion app, although it would take forever if the song was larger than 4mb. That was my 1st venture into smartphones. It came with a paltry for 64mb RAM for even todays low ends, but at that it was sufficient, with around 25mb RAM at boot up. I've still got it but its screens slide flex cable is toast, so is the battery.

Oh the good ol' Symbian days :)

In terms of Android?

My Pearl White Samsung Galaxy S3 32GB.

It served me soooo damn well, took incredible pics, ran like a well oiled machine, had all the bells and whistles and sat in my hand so comfortably due to it being a bit curved, I was satisfied with it and was planning to buy a Samsung 3000mAh extended battery pack for it early last year but then one day while getting out my Jeep which I had parked on a high place the phone fell out my pocket, hit the concrete very hard and the screen was done, insurance paid out and I got a GS4 32GB a month later. Miss my GS3.

I'd say my OG Droid. Was the first Android I had and loved it (and the development community to go along). Did dig my LG Chocolate back in the day too. :)

Since this walk down memory lane isn't limited to Android devices I moved it to the Lounge.:)

I still have my OG Droid and it hasn't been rebooted in over a year. For non-Android I liked my En-V.

Mmm... definitely my Pebble Blue Galaxy S3.

It had such personality, looked great, felt great in hand, for its day had a beautiful screen and was powerful, and its great snapper captured many good memories and captured them well. My S4 is just an electronic thing. A better electronic thing, but with as much personality as a toaster oven. My Nexus 5 is beginning to approach favorite status like the good ol' S3.

you can still use a CDMA StarTAC on a Verizon MVNO like Page Plus, which gets around the e911 restriction, but i cannot imagine who'd want to use one these days.

My current phone is the S4 but looks-wise it's the S3 with one more 'black dot' next to the earpiece. the real difference is that it's much faster and doesn't reboot itself randomly like my old S3 did. an improvement i will keep for a long time--that is if work does not destroy it.

My current phone, the HTC EVO V 4G (EVO3D) is the best phone I had so far spec-wise. But the fondest memories I had with a phone is the LG Optimus V.

It was my first foray into Android. Even though it was on the low end and a bit underpowered, it had a lot of support for it, including ROM development.

Before coming here, I used to frequent that phone's community often at Android Central to see if there was an update to my favorite ROM and kernel. *sigh* Those were the days.

I got the EVO 4G days before the 3D came out.

Had I waited a few days, I'm sure that would have been my favorite device :)

Development was pretty awesome, and it only continued once the prepaid carriers started selling it

My former better half got the Evo 4g while I got the Evo 3d on launch day when we opened up our Sprint contract. I played with her 4G a bit later that day. Definitely was happy I went with the 3d.

Dont get me wrong, the og Evo was a hell of a device, the 3d just seemed to sit more comfortable with me :)

It was the first android device I bought.

I didnt know the 3D was going to be available days later, but I also benefited from a solid development community right away. I'm not sure I would've ever found this place had it not been for that :)

The Samsung Captivate was my first Android (og Galaxy s), hell of a device btw too.

I didn't know when I was opening my contract with sprint that it was launch day for the 3vo until after I already paid for it

Likewise my 3vo is what brought me here looking to root & rom.

Thank you Google

All you guys with your evos. And galaxies my special phone believe it or not samsung admire it was my 2nd metro pcs smartphone and it was the phone that drug me here...

Anyone here ever sport a Dell Axim pocket PC? I had an X51v for a number of years. It was a great device for it's time, but now it feels like a brick.

Ok, I know it's not a phone, but I used it for many of the same purposes I now fulfill on my Nexus 5.

I had the X50v.. which was amazing for the time.. imagine a high resolution screen that you can connect to a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and then throw the output onto a vga monitor...

I even had the GSM phone CF card... so technically it made phone calls... although it did it incredibly badly...

There's a couple of old aximsite.com members here... so if you used to hang out there, then say hello.

I still have, but can't use, my Helio Ocean.

Another breakthrough product thanks to Matias Duarte, and Android is still missing its tightly integrated people features, even now.

I have no idea what that is but it looks cool.

And is that a dual slider?

Yes. Yes it is.

The other cool part was on the back. You did not remove a cover to swap the battery, the battery back was part-back-cover.

It's a CDMA device that only appeared on a Sprint MVNO here. Eventually the operation was bought by Virgin Mobile and Ocean owners were allowed to choose a VM phone or move to Sprint, where it's use was also not allowed (despite having no technical reasons for that on Sprint or VM).

That

I had a friend who had one of these. I remember being super jealous of it.

Alright so yesterday with a heavy heart I decided to retire my faithful, functioning yet battle scarred iPhone 4S... By evening I was unboxing my new Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. So shiny in the gold platinum color way :)

I felt like I was cheating on a faithful partner with a young sexy mistress. I'm a pretty savvy kinda guy. I know my way around a touch screen but just like a new partner everything works the same.. Yet somehow different. Touches and gestures that had a predictable response from iPhone don't exactly do the same thing with my sexy new s6. But the thrill of exploring it is on me and our honeymoon is just beginning. Haha ;)

But my one true love was back in 2000. I was 14 years old, a custom ringtone was something that you got after plugging in your 56k dial up modem into the phone line and doing a yahoo search on the number of button presses you needed to hit to get the riff from 'Killing in The Name Of' in monophonic glory. If your phone had a ringtone editor that is. It was a simpler time to be sure.

My heart and my fondest memories belong to my Nokia 8250. In an age where every company was trying to make the smallest possible device my Nokia 8250 with its sleek design and blue light up display was a beacon of hope in a chunky yellow and green world.

So pleasing to the eye it was that it attracted the attention of a girl that went to a different school at a friends party. The first girl I ever got a phone number from that was not one of my friends girlfriends.

I will always remember that cherished SMS notification sound and will always be proud of my speed typing skills long before the days of T9. My Nokia 8250 served me well for about 6 weeks. Texting with the fervor that only a newly in love 14 year old could. My Nokia 8250 delivered my messages of love to this girl day and night until we met up again to exchange my first kiss. Nokia 8250, you were the best thing to ever happen to me.

Sadly I cannot tell you what happened to my Nokia 8250... We drifted apart with time.. The young are so reckless with love. After many years of drifting iPhone came into my life and together we experienced new horizons and achieved things that were once only a dream.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, don't think about my past and I won't question you about yours. What is important is where we go from here. If you are faithful to me I will be good to you and together we can build a solid future.

I've had a lot of phones that I've really enjoyed, but my AT&T Tilt / HTC Kaiser / HTC TyTN II holds a special place for me. It was the first smartphone that I really started to tweak, modify, and flash with custom software. Oddly enough, this Windows Mobile device also gave me my first taste of Android, courtesy of some hackery I found at XDA for booting 1.5 and 1.6 off the SD card.

That phone is also the one that got me started hanging out at XDA, and that (eventually) led to me showing up here.

So really, it's my Tilt's fault that I am the way I am. ;)

After my last post I got to thinking about my past phones and there is another that deserves mentioning.

The Motorolla E398.

My god how I wanted it. This phone was my Playboy Pinnup dream. Cool design, MP3, loud high quality stereo speakers, 65k colour screen, Bluetooth and those side mounted multi colour led lights that put on a neon show anytime something happened on the device. So important to a generation that has just seen The Fast and The Furious.

However it was out of my reach. Attainable only through lock in contracts and my 17 year old self was not good at paying bills. I lusted for this phone. Dreamed about it night and day. I imagined all the things I would do with it once it was finally in my hands. Mp3 ringtones, message tones, expandable storage. I planned out which songs I would transfer to this device. I figured out exactly what sounds I wanted it to make for all my notifications.

Then I moved on.

That is until like 2 years later when the devices were being sold for $149 with pre paid sims! I snapped it up straight away!

But by that time none if that tech was new. My friends all had handsets that could do the same things. Some even better. But I got my dream and I held it tight. It was kind of like meeting the model hanging on your bedroom wall down at the mall. It's the same girl just without the air brushing and sporting a personality trait you never imagined her to have... But whatever it's still her and she's mine.

My Motorola E398 came to me a bit later in its life. It had already been around. Been to every party, was the star of the show. Even featured on the Black Eyed Peas music video for Let's Get It Started. But it still wanted to party every day. Those speakers and neons proved it. Sure some speakers by then were louder and neons were kinda tacky but few could match the clarity of sound coming out of the device. It still had it. But by this time was developing a bit of a smokers cough and a slight tic from an unchecked coke habit from its party days.

This phone was Tara Ried, this phone was Lindsay Lohan, this phone was Brittney Spears but I didn't care. I went all Kevin Ferdeline with it and rode what was left of the party train right until the melt down when the joystick gave out and the speakers took on a tinny edge after sitting in too many beer puddles.

We had a good time together. Hell if I ever come across it again I would love to take it for a night out. But I'm more mature now. My goals are not what they used to be. Motorola E398, you were a blast to be with. You knew how to party. You knew how to get the attention in the room. I hope you get an android rebuild
