How do cricket OTA updates work?

I have heard of Samsung phones updating though.. The updates came with a cricket sim but they where ATT Samsung phones not cricket

My experiences don are different. LG replied to my tweet here:

So i went up to the cities to an ATT store and purchased the cheapest pre paid sim i could get, low and behold it instantly found the update and my G2 is now running 5.0.2 lollipop. I dont know who is to blame here lg/att/cricket but something is amiss and even tho i now have lollipop on my phone it left a sour taste in my mouth.

Just picked up an unlocked G2 to use on Cricket. I'd love to know which prepaid sim you got - does it have to have data? Is it a gophone sim only? Just curious as I'll likely have to do this and maybe keep it on hand for updates as my wife also has the same phone.

In another forum someone said the update is on cricket now, but i cant be sure. The ATT sim was the cheapest one they offered which was 10 bucks thats all i know about the sim.

Thanks. Someone over on Howardforums said they used a basic gophone sim without even activating it. At this point I'm simply trying to get back to D80020y b/c I had to flash back to stock, so I'm about to pop in the gophone sim I got and will report back how it goes.
