Help Linking Phone to Account for Various Google Features

Trying to link my Note 4 to my account so I can do things like, "send directions to my phone," but cannot figure out how to link it. Only thing I've found is this page from Google, which is supposed to show you how. Unfortunately, it doesn't really. The directions get you to the point where you go into the Google App on the phone and check the email address you're logged onto. Then it goes directly to going to Google on the computer and trying to make it work. Nothing to actually link the phone. Mine is linked to my Samsung tablet but I cannot add it so I can select it when using these features.

Very frustrating as I cannot find how to do this online anywhere--been searching for the last 30 minutes.

Any ideas?

I got really frustrated with this too. I think only some things work in the UK. for example, if I go to Google.com & put "find my phone" in search box it works, but if I put "note to self remember eggs" I get some strange search results ha.
The thing I've found works is typing in google.com then when it loads copy and paste "&gl=us" (without quotes obviously) at the end of the address it changes to in the address bar/omnibox. Then try the search etc in the search box.

Not sure I follow you.

It works for me, I just can't change the Android device it's sending to. Currently, it's sending it to my Samsung tablet but I want to have it sent to my phone. When I click to select a different device, it doesn't show up so I click, "Set up a new Device," which takes me to the stupid page I posted earlier with instructions that leave out the important part--actually linking the phone. I just need to link this phone to my account. I use the phone ALL of the time logged into the same Google account I use on my tablet. So I'm not sure how to do this.
 
Oh right, I misunderstood sorry.
Hmm that's strange, I only have one device now so can't test. But you have turned on Now Cards and noitfications on the Phone too? If so I have no idea sorry :(

Yes. Just don't know what to do to actually link it. The directions don't tell you how.
