Help How do I clean up Dialer Storage on Samsung Galaxy S5?

bleszing

Lurker
The app seems to hold a massive amount of data. How do I clean it up? All the menu options except "Force Stop" are grayed out in App Manager.
THANKS!!!

I am pretty clear no the content...I'm just not sure why it's untouchable and so massive. Just saw another phone with over a gig in Dialer Storage.

Check your contacts app from the app manager, you may be able to clear it there.

I had a version (different phone but it's all the same Android down there) with a buggy contacts, would grow and grow, I had to clean it out every so often until they fixed it.

On stock Samsung Lollipop, go to...

Dialer > Logs > 3 dot menu > Delete > select the top left checkbox (selected) to delete all logs
Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the ignorance on my part, but I'm not following that menu trail. I don't see "logs" in my dialer. Is that the same as recent? If so, I just deleted and -sadly- didn't see any notable improvement in Dialer Storage.

There are currently 35 different models of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and over 3,000 different stock Samsung firmware versions, worldwide, covering 3 different Android platforms, Android 4.4.2, Android 4.4.4 and Android 5.0.0. Not all issues will affect all models or firmware releases and your answers to the following questions will help in the forum's answers to your specific query.

#1. Could you post your Model number and Android version...

To locate these, go to...

Settings > More > About device > Model number and Android version

This will give you the model of Samsung Galaxy S5 that you have and which Android version you are on.

#2. Your current Firmware, (not just Baseband), version .

To locate your current firmware version, go to the stock, Samsung, dial pad and type in...

*#1234#

This will give you your, "Version", details in full, usually 3 lines of information, AP: CP: CSC:, which may all be relevant.

*** If code *#1234# has been disabled on your firmware, you can download and install, free from the Play Store, Phone Info and it will give you, under Firmware Info... PDA, Baseband, CSC, versions.

Thanks, again.

1. I have S5 Model SM-GM900V running Lollipop 5.0

2. *#1234# didn't work. In Phone Info app (the one by MobiTrendz) all I see under Firmware is "qcom". Installed a second Phone Info app and see Bootloader, Baseband, PDA, CSC versions "G900VVRU1BOA8"

That explains the difference. You are not running stock Samsung Lollipop, see #1.6 of 35 Galaxy S5 models - know yours??? Therefore it is difficult for me to be precise. It sounds as though there was a snafu during your double update process and the Dialer Storage has created numerous files instead of one. Personally, I would suggest a Factory Data Reset as per post #2 of S5 Lollipop Update Problems - Dummies Guide as I can think of no other way to clear it.

I didn't even realize I wasn't running stock. Looks like factory reset might be the only option. Thanks again for the help.

What you have is "stock Verizon" Lollipop software, which is unique in the way it works, and has too many of the good features of stock Android removed from it.

We are also blessed with an extraordinary amount of bloatware that is totally unneeded on the phone. It is all a sales gimmick. Unless you or I root our Verizon phones, we have to just accept "it is what it is" and move on.

Those special dialing codes we keep reading about to gain access to special features? All of them have been removed from Verizon software. None of them have ever worked on any Verizon phone I have owned in the past 20 years.

A Factory Reset will allow the phone to start anew, fresh with a good solid OS.
It will come up again and you can test the phone to see if the problems you have are now gone, I think they will be. Then you can add in the apps that you really want.

I recommend that you turn OFF all of the apps that you will never use before you add any downloaded apps of your own choosing.

I'm having this problem but a factory reset is not an option for me. Here are the details of my device & my storage detail. Any help is very much appreciated.

Thanks!

You have the Galaxy S5 Active. The Factory Data Reset, see post #2 of S5 Lollipop Update Problems - Dummies Guide, is designed to clear any and all detritus from your phone and is there for exactly that reason. If you are unable or unwilling to implement this, then you could try installing Clean Master (Boost & AppLock), free from the Play Store, and run the Junk Files option and see how much that cleans/removes for you. I would, after use, recommend uninstalling or disabling this app as it is a battery/memory hog.
