Help WiFi (Internet dropouts on Android 4.4.2

I've had the Tab 2 A10-70F for about a week and it is exhibiting this behavior, running on Android 5.0.1. So it looks like the Lollipop upgrade does not fix it. The WiFi works for a while until seemingly randomly, the Internet stops working even though the WiFi appears to still be connected. Easily but annoyingly fixable by turning the WiFi off and on again. Next time it fails I'll check the logs and see what I can discover. It would be nice if Lenovo would acknowledge that they have a bug instead of pretending like everybody's routers are broken.

@happyhessian I am having the exact same issue. My internet would cut out every 3-6 minutes, with no explanation, while other wireless devices in the household have no problems with the connection. Is your wireless router capable of broadcasting (and currently is) a 5Ghz frequency? I purchased my first Lenovo Tab 2 a little over a week ago and quickly discovered the intermittent internet issue. Exchanged that tablet for a new one, same issue when I got home. My router is an Asus R-TN56U dual band router. I haven't had too much time to test this theory (I just disabled the 5Ghz band last night) but it is possible the tablet has trouble with the 5Ghz wireless frequency. In my short time of testing, this MAY have solved the problem, but again, I need more time to test it.

Well, I used the tablet on only the 2.4Ghz frequency last night for about an hour (disabled 5Ghz frequency on my router) with no internet disconnects.

I think I solved it. At least so far today it has been running flawlessly. The signal dropping and having to reset the wlan was driving me crazy.
My nighthawk router was set to automatically detect the cleanest channel (in my case channels 4 and/or 8 on 2.4 ghz). I took the nighthawk off AUTO and set it to a single channel (lots of apps available including one from netgear to help find your best one). The problem so far has disappeared.!! I think the router was "hunting" and when it changes channels the tablet Wifi gets lost, and maybe the repeater as well. FYI my nvidia-shield-tablet suffered some too, but the lenovo was much worse. All wifi 's aren't equal.

As an aside - how did you get 5.1 Lollipop onto the Lenovo? It isn't offering me any OTA updates. I'm just more curious than anything - now all is well with the tablet I'm not in such a hurry to upgrade.
go to "about tablet" in settings and have it look for upgrades.

SD - I attempted what you mentioned with no luck on my end. It still appears to be the 5Ghz frequency that's messing with my Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70 tablet. Over the weekend, I set my router to allow all devices in my home to access both the 2.4 Ghz and 5Ghz frequencies, except for the lenovo tablet, which I only allowed the router to broadcast the 2.4Ghz frequency to. No issues at all. As soon as I allow the tablet to connect to the 5Ghz frequency, I get frequent disconnects.

It seems that the tablet isn't very good at automatically switching (at least with my netgear nighthawk) . I have had a few issues with the 5ghz as well, but only the first I turn it on. The first time it freezes I switch to 2.4. I hate to "forget" the frequency because the data transfer rate is sooooo much better. I used it at my son's place and didn't seem to have a problem. What router are you using?

I am using an Asus RTN56U router. It is annoying to have to commit to the 2.4 frequency, but it's just too irritating to have the tablet's internet cutting in and out every few minutes!

Hey all,

Found this thread doing a search for the same problem. I've updated to 5.01, but have had the problem for some time. My router is the Asus rt-n56u. I have no problems with other devices via wifi. I'm only using 2.4 GHz. Like others turning WiFi on/off fixes problem. I've also noticed that my screen will go black then right to the locked screen for no reason. Other than that this is a great tablet at a good price. Since others here have different configurations on WiFi and android, the only common denominator is the tablet itself.

If someone has an open ticket with Lenovo, maybe they should invite them to this thread so they can gather more data.

This solved it for me too. I was using a TP-Link WR541G set to Channel - Auto. Status indicated it was using Channel 1. I switched it from Auto to Channel 11. There have not been any dropouts in the past hour. The Lenovo would only go 3-5 minutes before this without dropping connection. This was on Lollipop 5.01 though rather than 4.4.2.

This is not really a solution since I'll probably have the same issues on any public Wifi but at least it's a fix for home. There appears to be some kind of compatibility issue on the Wifi Channel selection that either Android or Lenovo has to fix.

I'm a newcomer to Android on tablets. I'm running 4.4.2 on a Lenovo A10 70. I get instant good automatic WiFi connections to my network router, but whilst but whilst the router connection stays there just fine, the Internet connection drops out frequently - the browser reporting that it can't find the server. All the other devices (two desktops, a laptop, and a Galaxy S3 phone running Android 4.3) attached to the router can access the same pages on the Internet, so there is nothing wrong with the ADSL connection to my ISP. Turning the WiFi off and on again from the tablet fixes the problem. Any ideas where to start looking for the problem, please? Might it just be 4.4.2 at fault?

Regards,

Bob

Hello,
To fix this problem you should try to change your wifi password to an "easier" one. Just numeric (for example a date 12101967 or a phone numer....).
I know it sounds "weird" but it can solve the problem. Trust me.

Greetings from Spain.

Lenovo Customer Support Call Response: after dealing with Tech Support.....

If you turn off your Tab 2 A10-70F, then turn on while holding the power button and volume UP button for a time, a plain text screen with many boot up options will appear. Using the volume up/down button to navigate, select the "wipe data/factory rest" option.

It does leave lollipop on the tablet, but my WiFi has been acting much better.

i had the same problem with my lenovo tab2a10. i tried everything i had read on every post on every forum... nothing worked. then i remembered that the problem had started just after i installed a new game from the google play store. i removed the game, rebooted, and the problem was gone. i repeated this procedure twice to verify, and it works. before you try any complex solution, try this!

I believe that every A10-70 owner has the same problem. I am pretty sure that is not hardware issue, so I fixed that on software level, just to install WiFi booster. You can install any of them, I personally installed very first program that I found on Google Play. I can't say that I don't have any problem with WiFi anymore, but at least most of problems were minimized.

I bought my Lenovo A2 A10-70 tablet today
WiFi was dropping so frequently, that I couldn't register my Gmail account.
I was on the verge of taking it back for a refund.

Then I changed the name of my 5ghz SSID to net08,
leaving my 2.4ghz SSID at net07
Both channels set on auto

I then setup my tablet to connect to the 5ghz net08
and it has worked perfectly since.

I think it was getting confused with the 2.4ghz and 5ghz networks sharing the same name.

Anyway, that worked for me.
I hope it helps other's too.

I literally just bought one of these, straight away I witness both the WIFI connection dropping out every few seconds.
And the audio issue with no sound from the built in Dolby sound bar...
I have a BT home hub (UK) which will allow me to separate 2.4Gh and 5G bands. So I will continue to test.
I also have the sound issue though... close to returning it TBH. Purchased with Lollipop installed. Have any of you seen the Audio problems?

My tablet is still fabulous. WIFI is fast and reliable. Audio is great (for a tablet)

Have you updated the firmware?
Settings / about tablet / system update

If you've updated, full power down/up,
separated the wifi and it's still dodgy,
You've probably got a duff one.

Yeah,
It was bang up-to-date.
I split wifi bands and connected to 5G and it remained a solid connection from then on. During testing audio was a bit of a lottery. The demo button in the Dolby app had no audio output what so ever - which was hilarious. I loaded flixster video and pulled down a few movies to test. Out of three attempts I just couldn't get the tab to play a whole movie through with audio and without crashing to a halt. Even loading youtube and playing some random videos dropped audio. So, factory reset and returned for a full refund.

Thanks for your advice and assistance people. Have a great festive season wherever you are... :-)

I solved this problem.
I bring my tablet twice for repair. Got a new motherboard but that doesn't fixed this issue.
I got the advice from family member to buy a new TP-Link router and plug this router into my existing ziggo modem/router of UBEE (for television). And it works. With the new router I haven't loose the connection anymore (and have double Mbit speed).
