So if not Note 5. What phone?

I will test out the Moto X Pure 64GB since also has sd slot and the front stereo speakers. Plus no carrier or Samsung bloat. Battery life seems to be the only thing that could keep this phone from being great. Perhaps the display power efficiency will surprise in a good way. Some previews state the surprise the viewing angles for a LCD are very good, as a few Youtube videos point out. Maybe a super duper IPS panel breakthrough :) ;)

I've been waiting on the Moto X pure, but have to be honest the Note 5 is definitely growing on me. I think the biggest deterrent has to be the price, see I was told I'm allowed to get one, but only if I get my girlfriend one too. I'm thinking I wanna go and play with it later and who knows maybe I'll end up leaving with two o_O

Some sage advice:
Happy (Future) wife,HAPPY LIFE................ :D

If Sony ends up having a Xperia Z5 Ultra that is either smaller physically or the same dimensions as the C5 Ultra, it'll definitely be a strong contender for me...of course, that's if Sprint decides to finally go in on a variant:

Looks like the G4 Pro won't be "super" premium phone, like early mentioned by LG's CEO, but the rumored specs still make it a top contender for me. Especially after the rumor about the Z5 Ultra only being 5.5 inch, which likely means, the height of that device will be too tall for only a 5.5

Here's the latest on the G4 Pro. Specs look great based on Korean media source:

I was curious who is on this thread since it has many replies. I see many current and previous Note owners from reading thru it. Though the "will you upgrade" thread probably gets the bulk of those owners comments. Maybe that should be renamed "after the Note 2,3,4 my next phone will be". I just wanted to give my 2 cents. The so called failings of this phone are a non issue for me. 64 gigs is plenty of storage and the battery life so far is as expected and getting better.

Though I love Samsung I did defect to the Nexus 6 (hated it) for the last 8 months because I was disappointed in the Note 4 specs (moving from a Note 3 at the time, kept that as my 2nd phone). And if I were to pick apart the Note 5 specs this is what I miss.

The Cons: This phone is very expensive and for the price it should have been a kitchen sink kind of phone with nothing missing. I in particular would have liked a removable battery, IR blaster, waterproofing, front speakers, FM radio active and sure SD card slot. I'd actually really have liked Dual Sim card as I see may be released later. Did I miss anything?

No phone has been perfect and I've owned everything. Other than saving a few hundred dollars so far my New Note 5 is the best. Thanks

So I'm not very happy with the Not 5 specs.
No SD. Non removable Battery and smaller than my Note 3. An NO 128gig available??? 64 will not do.

So what other phone would you guys recommend?

Pep
Lumia 950X I always wanted a Windows phone anyway because I use MS Office and I hate Android's email and contacts.

Whether it's called the G4 Pro or G4 Note, I don't care, but I'd love to have a G4 Note http://phandroid.com/2015/08/31/lg-g4-note-trademark/ Even though it likely won't come close to the pressure sensitivity of the Wacom S-pen, I won't mind if I'm just able to use it for notes on the go. We're barely 1 month away from October, so hopefully the G4 Pro or G4 Note will be a worthy upgrade as a birthday gift to myself!...LOL.

Agreed the G4 pro/note will be mighty tempting. I would like to see how lg's new screen tech on the g4 compared to the note 4.

I would also love for them to tone down the software as well. While I can only dream that they would go the Motorola route with near stock, I would at least like for their ui to not lag like a mofo after a few months (touchwiz does this as well.)

If I remember correctly, LG definitely toned it down for the G4, as compared to the G1-G3.

Thing is, they already released the G Stylo mid-range phone, after the g4. I hope, if they plan on making the G5 Pro / Note with a Stylus, they figured out how to get a smaller overall package like the g3 and g4. I had the G3 for a brief moment, before gifting it to a relative, and it was so comfortable to hold compared to even my Note 3.

The Note 5 gave me that same feeling, of a device that was just so easy to hold, but form wasn't enough for me to rule out function. If LG hits the mark with both form and function, that will likely be my device choice... at least until the folding phones and surface phone make it to production.

If they can keep the same form factor as the g3 AND include a stylus I'd be shocked, but very pleasantly surprised. I still have a g3 lying around and I agree that it has a great feel in hand. That screen was just awful though lol

Oh yeah, that's for sure! You know what, I think I remember you mentioning picking up a G3 too. I didn't find the screen to be that bad, but the drain and lag, while also comparing to other device screens...just didn't hold up to par. What I couldn't figure out is why they needed to increase the size of the phone overall, on the G4. The G4 showed definite improvements from the G3 screen and from what I've heard, they improved the battery drain too.

What's funny to me is all the excuses that OEM's make on why they did something or changed something, but come back to change those things the following year, yet still end up charging the same price...LOL. That's why LG has had my attention for the past couple generations already, even though I've been loving the Note 3 experience still. I'm really not opposed to keeping the G3 for another 1/2 year or full year, to see what comes in 2016, but am definitely getting that "new device" itch for my phone.

Surface phone rumors really compelling also, if it is in development and scheduled for 2016 release.
People on the WP site are talking about the Surface phone along with some negative comments about the WP OS and lack of aps, still, especially the banks. But, I'm not sure what group of people are using WP, if it's the XBox crowd, and not the MS Office people, their needs are different than mine and needs that Android isn't filling. Dlcpa

The one thing that I read that has me extremely intrigued, was the possibility that it would allow for Win32 desktop apps being installed onto the phone. If that's the case, I really wouldn't care about the app store being lacking anymore. The only app that I'd like to see in the Windows Phone app store is Poweramp, because Bluestacks was just crashing Poweramp for me and didn't want to re-try it, since I couldn't really diagnose the issue.

Some renders I've seen have been really cool looking. One other thing that really had me curious was there being either a 64gb or 128gb version w/ a microSD slot! Everything about the phone represents what Microsoft was trying to accomplish with the original Windows Mobile (e.g. Pocket PC). Of course, this all depends if the rumors come true.

Either way, still loving the idea of what it could be.

Don't be taken in by the rumors, the truth is documented by Microsoft.

Windows 10 provides a single build environment so that desktop and mobile apps can be generated from a single code base without having to change APIs - the application program interfaces.

What the underlying support code will do with those calls isn't necessarily going to be the same thing on the desktop and mobile - phones are not going to magically overnight suddenly get a Windows/system32 folder of DLLs that are the same as the desktop.

And unless you start seeing phones with 64-bit Intel processors and the rest of the desktop silicon set, you're not going to be grabbing any Win32 apps unmodified from your desktop real soon now.

Microsoft's goal is to make it easier for developers to generate mobile and desktop versions of their apps with less pain than before. That's it.

Rumors of being able to run the same apps in the same way hit in Windows 8 as well - it wasn't true then, it's not going to be true now.

TANSTAAFL - there ain't no such thing as a free lunch.

Meanwhile, I'll continue to poke along with Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync contacts, the Microsoft professional standard, and Office Suite Pro on Android and wish everyone all the best with their MS contacts not supported by any other platform and not asking why not.

As a few of said in the first thread here on this, yes, it would be outstanding if the Windows on mobile promises finally came true.

Thanks, EM. While you've been a friend here for a long time, and always appreciate your thorough answers, sometimes I wish you would dumb down your answers to plain English. I understood your response, but it was way more elaborate than anticipated.

My interest in a Surface Phone is really based on 1) Really loving my experience with the Surface Phone 3, since the Windows 10 update, and 2) The "idea" of being able to load PC programs onto a phone. I didn't say I was buying into the hype yet. I didn't say that I'd be getting it for sure. I just said that I was paying attention to it very closely. Rarely, if ever, do I purchase a device that costs that much, without researching how it'll serve my own needs and work for me. You know me and how imporrtant it is for me to have a well rounded device, hence the reason I'm posting in this thread placed in the Note 5 forum (which has gone away from the productivity needs I have), to help those in the same boat trying to decide what device to choose next.

Of course, and I meant nothing personally critical - I just hate *everyone's* hype trains so if I sounded harsh, it was only that. And fwiw, I was honestly going for the simple version there, for me, that was it. :(

Windows phones, talking back in the 6.5 days, did things I had to wait a long time for to come to Android.

I honestly hope that we get some competition with real innovation from the new batch and not just promises. Hopefully the new management at Microsoft can make that happen.

For years the latest iOS has just been an old HTC Sense retread from a software features perspective, BlackBerry never made anything as good as their users believed, and the market spoke on the lack of utility in Windows mobile up until now.

Sailfish is being absorbed into Android and the Linux hopefuls seem to have forgotten what happened with Nokia and Trolltech.

I think that the only major player with the will and capacity to mount a real challenge that we might enjoy is Microsoft.

But they have to wake up and stop learning from Apple - walled gardens are bad.

EM, you know I have tons of love and respect for you, so that wasn't really meant as a criticism. I'm just saying, sometimes you're too darn smart for everyone here!...LOL...so even your simplified answers are complicated. I'm just glad, with some of your explanations privately (in the past), that I can somewhat keep up...haha

That said, and yes, you're correct, Windows Mobile (back in the 6.5 days) did some amazing things that nobody bothered talking about! And absolutely agree that there needs to be some competition, so that the OEM's don't settle and just get lazy making the predictable devices every year, without something innovative (yet simple) for people to grasp and use in their daily lives. And yes, I do hope that Microsoft's new regime will bring in factors that will actually be relevant for everyone, but stay as functional as they have in the past.

Regarding HTC and iOS. Absolutely. But it goes beyond that. Had you seen the leak that Evan put out of the upcoming HTC phone? I can't wait until I see all the people who claim it "copied the iPhone", when that's been the design styling ever since HTC came out with the HTC Evo LTE! As for Blackberry, I have to say that the Venice actually does intrigue me, but I have a feeling it might be a case of "too little, too late" vs. "better late than never." Go back just 5 years, had Blackberry seen the writing on the wall and created this type of qwerty, running Android, to compete with the Motorola Droid (but offer on all platforms), I think it would've done way better. Even if it were a smaller screen, I think it would've saved itself from the current state it's in.

Hallelujah regarding the Apple statement. How tragic would that be if Microsoft & Android (Google) ended up with a closed ecosystem. I think I'd be tempted to go back to a regular flip phone at that point.

Now, back to what other phone I'd consider...the Z5 Premium is looking darn nice w/ the physical dimensions:
http://www.androidauthority.com/sony-xperia-z5-premium-specs-price-availability-638781/

154.4mm x 75.8mm x 7.8mm, 180 grams

Those are very close to the Note 5 dimensions. Only thing is, the G4 and G3 are smaller, but still pack the same size screen. X-Factor for Sony is the 4k screen...but I'm curious how much of a difference that really makes on a 5.5 inch screen! Seriously?

My best guess at an application where that screen resolution might make a difference is VR.

My best guess at the real motivation is marketing.

But it's an alternative that gives you ingress protection and SD expansion, and Sony haven't been doing too badly in the software updates lately (or at least that's the impression I get from the outside). Specs are only one thing though, how well it all comes together is more important, but if I were in the phablet market I'd consider it.

There are also rumours of a slightly smaller-screened Moto X model with an even bigger battery and a "shatterproof" design (whatever that means in reality as opposed to marketing-speak). But that's still at the rumour stage right now.

Huawei Mate S could be a contender, but doubting the radios are Sprint compatible. The bottom bezel looks like it could've been shurnk a 'bit, but the dual-SIM (2nd as microSD) is a win for sure.

Those on T-Mobile may wanna give the NOTE4 a look today,it's currently available for $499 BNIB direct from T-Mobile.
Just use the code NOTE4DEAL at checkout............
