Help Will my unlocked Moto G Third Gen work with current MetroPCS sim card?

Hey guys, so I currently have the LG Optimus L70 right now that I bought from Metro about a year ago, so I recently decided it was time for a upgrade so I went ahead and bought the new, "Motorola Moto G (3rd generation) - Global GSM - Unlocked" from Amazon. My idea was that I could just simply switch out the SIM card in my current phone and put it in the new Moto and keep the same plan and number without any hassle. So when the phone came in the mail this morning I went to the Metro website to get some instructions on how to switch the card out and I found their compatibility tool for unlocked phones and when I searched the phone no results were found... Now I'm wondering if this is just because the phone has just come out and they haven't updated their list of compatible devices, or if it's not compatible right now and it simply won't work on their network.

I'm really stuck right now and could really use some help because I have the box in front of me and I'm not able to open it to try and put in the SIM card in and check to see if it works because if I do that I will not be able to return it in case it doesn't work and then I'll be out $200. Anyone know what I should do?:(

The phone will work on MetroPCS. I'm using the 1st gen Moto G right now. I don't know about the SIM card though; I don't know if the SIM cards are the same size. You will have to either go in to a store or work with someone on line to make sure your SIM will work in your phone. But either way you will have to get your SIM paired to the imei of your new phone; you can't just pop a MetroPCS SIM in and go.

Edit: to reiterate, you CAN use the 3rd gen Moto G on MetroPCS. You didn't waste your money.

Here's what you do. Call 611 from your old phone. Tell them you have a new unlocked phone you want/need to switch service/Sim over to. Give them the imei# for the new phone and the Sim card # if different, if not tell them same Sim. Swap Sim to new phone if needed. And yes the phone will work, you didn't waste your money. Any GSM phones that are unlocked work on metro. I hope this helps,
Anthony.

Thank you, I called and it took less than 10 minutes to complete the switch, surprisingly good customer support. Just gotta wait 2 hours for the change to take effect then I should be good to go. :)

Wonderful. I'm looking forward to getting one and putting it on MetroPCS, myself.

I am also looking to buy a 3rd gen moto g. Can anyone confirm for me that the hotspot feature is working correctly and can access the internet through the hotspot. The reason why I am asking is that I purchased a nexus 6 and the hotspot didn't work, I could not access the internet.

Nexus 6 is known to have hotspot issues, not specifically with Metro either. If you search Nexus 6 on here, you will see a few posts about it. I believe someone was able to fix it or point the user in the right direction.

Moto E 1st gen has had no issues with the hotspot. Been working for over a year now. No issues for 2 OnePlus Ones either. 1 stock, 1 rooted with multiple Custom Roms.

@alfick3 has the 1st generation and has not had any issues. I will wait for him to confirm that since I am just going off of memory. I see no reason to think you will encounter issues.

That is correct; I'm using the 1st gen Moto G and have no problems tethering.

I believe you should get your updates directly from Google.

Yep, Nexus devices get updates directly from Google, and before anyone else. :thumbsupdroid:

That used to be true, but not always the case now.

Google started rolling out marshmallow Oct 6th - T-Mobile just "approved" the Nexus 6 Marshmallow for their service.

T-Mobile Nexus 6 Android 6.0 update approved, expected to start arriving ‘soon’

The update is NOT coming from Google, and behind everyone else
