Too Slow for Anything!

Ever since the 5.1.1 update (MetroPCS), this phone has went down the drain! I am even considering leaving Samsung and getting me a Nexus next year. The phone starts off good (as seen in the pics) when I first turn it on.. Then about an hour after, it starts to lag terribly. With so much little RAM to do anything. That's when I'm forced to used a task killer (even tho its suggested not to, but what else can I do?) Supposedly Android takes care of RAM and uses it to make it run smooth, but I have yet to experience that with the update.

Android 5.1.1 is far from perfect. Which is why Samsung has chosen not to release it to its own unbranded worldwide models, G900F and G900H.

Having said that, have you wiped your cache partition since the update?

Also, are you currently running any of the following apps...

Apps that auto start or run in the background

1. Facebook

2. BlackBerry Messenger

3. 8 Ball Pool

4. Instagram

5. Messenger

6. WeChat

7. Facebook Pages Manager

8. Oovoo Video Call Text & Voice

9. KakaoTalk Free Calls & Text

10. Vine

Apps that are initiated by the user

1. Spotify

2. Amazon Kindle

3. Line Free Calls & Messages

4. Samsung WatchOn Video

5. Snapchat

6. Netflix

7. SoundCloud Music & Audio

8. CleanMaster Speed Booster

9. Tumblr

10. Picsart Photo Studio

Try a cache wipe as suggested and if that doesn't help do a factory reset. The reset is often beneficial after a major update.
Personally I'm still happily on 4.4.2 and staying there, rooted with updates disabled.

I have 4 apps from the first list and 2 from the second list. And I did wipe the cache partition, but still. It gets extremely laggy after a while, that same day. I should've done research before updating. It was my first time receiving an OTA, saw it was 5.1.1 and just went on with it. Looking at other phones is making me want to make the switch either way, though.

You are running 6 of the biggest battery and performance draining apps that there are for Android!

See... Facebook and Spotify Music apps are the biggest hogs of your Android phone’s battery, memory, and data

Try disabling those apps and see if your battery and performance improves.

I just don't get it. We're in 2015 almost '16, and things can't run smooth? I may have 6 of the biggest RAM hogs, but come on, those are the most popular. Should I just uninstall all the user apps and use my phone for calls and text only for it to run smooth? Do you have any of those apps, if so, how does your phone run? I want to try your advice but then say if performance does improve? lol what am I going to do with a smart phone and no apps?

just because they are popular, does not make them efficient with battery use.
You need to adjust to the real world and accept that you can't run a lot of battery hungry apps at the same time.

I practice killing off all unused apps..... even though I know that all the gurus say it is totally unneccessary.
Well, I can tell you that it makes a huge difference in battery life by making it a point to kill any app that is not in use "right now".

For a while, I had Developer Options set to terminate any app "not in use", but that became a hassle when I tried to MultiTask between two apps at the same time. The one not on screen was terminated, and I would loose my place in that app.

so, I went back to manually killing them off.

You need to decide what is more important, a lot of apps, or a fast and leaner phone?

Every time, my phone slows down to the point that it is almost locked up, I find that there are nearly a dozen apps still on the Recent List.... I can "Close All" apps, and then the phone returns to normal speed again.

On one occasion, the phone "locked up" ( actually slow processing my keystrokes) and I just pulled the battery and restarted it. that solved that problem.... which again reminded me to watch out and keep everything killed off.

yup, I can hear the gurus priming the pump saying it ain't necessary... but my experience says it is.

Yea, I understand. My problem isn't battery use tho. I know that watching videos for 2 hours straight is going to kill the battery much faster than going through FB and browsing the web in 2 hours. So I'm clear on that. But yes, killing off apps is neccessarry for me as well. I can't use my phone if its laggy to the point where it takes 10 seconds to open up an app and a few more seconds to load the page, and lag while I scroll.

Whats important to me is to have my phone running smooth, even with the amount of apps I have. Whats good having a smartphone to run fast and smooth if I have to compromise not having certain apps? Like I said before, for that I should use a flipphone with nothing on it so I can only call and text, and it will run smooth 100 percent of the time. It feels like I'm asking for too much, but I didn't $700+ so it can run like a $150 phone. Yes I can delete FB, Snapchat, Messenger etc. but what am I going to do with my phone? Just look at it? Maybe I can delete the FB app, and get to FB through the browser but idk. Maybe its just me and expecting way too much from a $700 phone (when it 1st came out).

it only takes 2 seconds for an app to come up and go.

just how big of a hurry are you in anyway?

you don't have to delete anything, just don't keep it active in the background.
On FB and other social apps, turn OFF Notifications.... we don't need that unless we bring up the app.
