Help Sprint/Ntelos Note 3 on straight talk?

Lurker
I just picked up a Note 3 from an ntelos subscriber. I know that straight talk says you "can't" use a cdma phone on their network, but I use a Verizon-branded S4 with straight talk, and I figured the process to switch the Note would be the same... basically switch the phone from cdma to gsm use in settings, and use a different APN.

I made the same changes in the Note, but nothing works. I get an "invalid sim card" notification. I have no talk, no text, no data. When I go into APN's to try to enter a new one, I see "Unable to view the access point name settings. Access is restricted for the current user profile"

I never saw this message with my S4.

Help?

You didn't ask a stupid question. I did some research but didn't come up with anything. I think you might have to root the device and that may give you the ability to change the APN settings

Thanks for the response. I attempted to root it, and I thought it completed, but when I plugged in and opened the root program again, it said root status: no.

Maybe I'll try it again...

I've used Verizon and Att branded phones on Straight talk but unfamiliar with Ntelos. Only thing I can think of would be the frequency bands on the Note not being compatible. With the BYOD kits you get 4 Sims. If it's a CDMA phone you may get it to work with the Sim for Verizon phones.
