Hi,

After 6 years of Apple products I'm finally on Android with a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 N9005. I'm using this guide in order to root my phone.

Step 10 where it says Odin 3 should say "Pass!" with a green background I get the message "reset" with a blue background.

But my phone goes on to quite merrily reboot. Am I rooted? How do I tell if it's worked?

Downloading, do not turn off target is the standard message when you have entered download mode correctly. You should be able to connect to pc with Odin program running and if you have the correct drivers installed, you should get a blue box with a com port number. That means Odin has connected to your phone.

Usually a few min after the blue reset it will change to green "pass". To check if phone is rooted find and open SuperSu app. Should get prompt to update binary. If successful you are rooted and can get root checker app from pla store to verify.

Cheers dude, managed to root fine in the end. Or at least I assume I have. Google play store doesn't seem to be working on my phone (does that need a sim?) so I can't download a root checker.

I'm now trying to work my way through the incredibly vague instructions on installing the Aryamod from XDA.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/development/rom-aryamod-v1-tw-lollipop-t2990920

So I'm using the Plan B installation which is coming from official TW 5.0 (no idea what the tw stands for but hey I'm assuming im official as the phone is factory reset).

I've downloaded the two .md5 files. Downloaded the Rom zip. I didn't make sure the .md5s match as I haven't the foggiest wtf that means and how to use the md5 matching software they recommend downloading.
So I ignored that. The next confusing piece of information is "then transfer it to your phone card" wtf does this mean? I took that to mean odin them over. Which I did, I then dropped the battery out for the ten seconds.

But then it tells me to flash the files over... great, I'd already done that. So wtf does "transfer it to your phone card" mean?

So I did things slightly out of order, so then I try and load up the phone to do a "full wipe" and it just says I can't boot this and gives me the downloading don't remove target screen again. So... what have I done wrong?

And then the final step says "in aroma choose whatever you want". wtf is aroma?? and what do I want to select?

I know this is all done for and by people a lot smarter than me but all I want to do is flash 1 single rom, can't they make things a bit simpler?? Any help would really be appreciated guys.

I'll try and answer what I can. TW 5.0 means that it is a Touch Wiz Lollipop rom, basically stock. Looking at the instruction in the link, you are to flash the md5 files with Odin then boot into custom recovery to flash the Rom zip. If all you have done is root the phone, you need to look for and install a custom recovery. Most are using TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) or CWM (Clock Work Mod). The Rom zip file you downloaded to pc should be copied to your phones sd card. Do not unzip the file. The Rom zip can only be flashed in custom recovery. Copy Rom zip to ext sd card.
Not familiar with Aroma but I think it has to do with customization.

Best advice I can give you is to read every thing you can. Have a plan and the files to flash back to stock if something goes wrong. Install the correct custom recovery for your exact phone model and learn how to make a nandroid backup. As long as you can get into download mode you can usually get yourself out of a jam.
