Help Reject call, still leaves voicemail

Hi,
I have a Galaxy S5 and keep receiving calls from unknown numbers which I'd like to block. After adding them to the "reject list", the phone no longer rings, but the user is apparently still able to leave a voicemail. How do I disable this ability as well?

How can I reject a "RESTRICTED" number?

Is any of this possible to do at the carrier level? My carrier is Sprint, and I'd like to reject the number before it even ever reaches my phone.

Hi, I use an app called Calls Blacklist from the Play Store, it's free and works beautifully, once the number is entered into it I'm never bothered again by that caller. Phil

is that the app that will just 'accept the call' and then hangup immediately?
that would prevent a call from rolling over to voicemail, which is what the OP is looking for.

I don't see any mention in their advert about stopping a call from going to VM.

I used to use an app like that, but after I changed my ph# from Arizona to Oklahoma, all of the deadbeats lost me :)

Another reason I quit using any type of call blocker, is for medical reasons.
There are so many insurance companies, Medicare agencies, doctor's offices, that all have unlisted numbers, many of them 800 type numbers; that blocking calls not in your contact list can be downright Hazardous to your Health.

Verizon will allow you to assign numbers to a call blocking list, I forget now if there is a fee for that.... IIRC, you can have up to 5 or 10 numbers blocked for free... the caller gets a message or they don't get a message, depending on how you set it up.

You might call your carrier's CS and ask them.

Hi, I have used this app for a couple of years now, and not one phone call has gone to voicemail, the fact it blocks any texts you want to has kept me from the spammers as well. Phil
 
I suspect what happens is that the phone actually rejects the call, but you have a call forwarding setting in place, which forwards all calls to your voicemail when your line is busy. Go to Settings, Applications, Call, Additional settings, Call forwarding, Voice call, and see what the "Forward when busy" setting looks like. Is it set to your voicemail number?

I don't have the "Call forwarding" menu you've described on my Galaxy S5. I've also looked through the Call menu and don't see anything relating to Call Forwarding. Any other ideas?
 
It may not be exactly where mine is, or it may not look exactly like mine, but there must be a call forwarding option somewhere.
If you cannot find it in the settings menu, there are some standard GSM codes for such services. See here, scroll down to Call Forwarding.
So, to find out whether your incoming voice calls are forwarded when busy, open the dialer and type the code *#67*11# followed by the Call button.

I've gone through every option that appears even remotely related to Calls, and can't find a "Call Forwarding" option on my phone. Also, your code results in "code you have dialed is incorrect...."

on Verizon, it is *72 and wait a bit, then enter the number you want the phone forwarded to then hit SEND

this will forward ALL calls though.

*73 cancels call forwarding
 
The codes above are for GSM networks. If you're on a different kind of network, that might also explain why you can't find in the settings menu the options I have in mine.
Anyway, call forwarding is not a phone feature, but a network service. I would suggest you contact your operator and ask them to check your current forwarding setting. If it's on, ask them to turn it off.
 
You can use an app called "Mr Number". It will pick up and then hang up on that number but you won't even see it come in on your phone. It is highly customizable and I use it on all of my phones. That way you won't have to shut down You voicemail completely.

BTW, the location of your call forwarding settings is: phone/keypad/settings/call/additional settings/
The number should be pointing to your carrier's voicemail routing system.
