Root TWRP 2.8.7.0 [LG Ultimate 2]

Anyone want to test TWRP 2.8.7.0?

https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347767586

I am almost certain the recovery will work. The main thing that needs to be tested is booting to recovery from power off. I had to change the way I did it with 2.8.7.0 and we need to find out if it boots to recovery without actually wiping the data. Please make a backup in the current recovery before doing this because it is possible your data will be wiped. Thanks :)
Yay! I will test it out now!

It works the same as the old one.

I can still get to recovery from power off but when we look in the log after we go in from the reset menu it looks like this:

I hope this helps a bit

so to be clear, other than the red message it went to recovery without wiping data, correct?

In 2.8.6.0 I removed the openrecoveryscript functionality altogether. I got build errors doing it this way in 2.8.7.0 so I removed the openrecoveryscript wipe command. The reason you are seeing this error is because LG issues the openrecoveryscript wipe command, which does not exist anymore, so you get an error. This is a good error to get ;)

And also you need to disable the bootloder option when you go to the reboot menu because the w5c has no boot loader mode.

I updated the OP with 2.8.7.0. I am fairly confident it is good now. Let me know if I am wrong lol :P

I've been looking for an update to this thread for a couple of weeks. I have the Ultimate2.

Concerning the installation of TWRP, one site reads "Android SDK must be installed on your computer". But when I attempt to install it, I am informed that JDKv7 cannot be detected, but Oracle no longer supports the software. What has replaced the JDK7?

I don't mean to back you guys up to Tech 101, or jack the thread, but is all of the above required to run TWRP? I'm a songwriter not a programmer, but I'm wanting to learn so go easy on me.

JDK8, but all you really need is ADB and LG's USB driver, the SDK is a complete developers toolkit...or Flashify from the play store, that's definitely the easiest way to install recovery.

The install instructions are in the OP (first post of this thread). I would follow them if I were you ;)

Worked perfectly. The only thing I noticed is that I am EST ( New York ) & the time in TWRP was 3 hours off. I changed the time zone to PST and now the time is correct. Not that important unless the correct time affects other things.

Thanks,

Al

As acr123 mentioned, the time is off, but so is the date. Here's my date/time compared to recovery:
Code:
2015-09-15--14:52:00 EDT
1970-02-19--13:56:25 EDT
I noticed this the day I installed TWRP, and adjusted the time zone to match the best I could, but it was still off +/-7 minutes or so. Since then, I flashed a few other recoveries, then returned to TWRP, and I noticed the time in TWRP is dependent on the time it was flashed, and the date starts on 1969-12-31. Granted the only noticeable effect this has is the APPEND DATE button in the Backup menu, and files written while in recovery (excluding restored data from a previous backup) retain the recovery timestamp in Android OS. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, just sharing my observations.

Thx again, SuperR, for all your hard work.

Hi yall i just wanted to say thanks.
Fyi im 14 and couldd follow ur tutorial with a little initiative very easily. Last night i installed twrp and flashed the g3 rom on my L41C. I love it and think you guys all reserve credit for writning something a teen could follow

Has anyone successfully flashed the G3 2.1 upgrade onto their LG L41C using this TWRP? Everytime I attempt it, I get a certification error.

Thanks guys.

Didn't try the G3 2.1, but I did flash the G3-ROM-Port-2.3 on one of mine using this recovery. The suggested routine seemed a little odd in that author says to wipe cache after flashing rather than prior to, but it worked. The fonts appeared a bit off, and there were some other minor nuances (don't recall what), but being data was backed up, I just factory reset and it was fine. This could be entirely my fault as I think that I didn't wipe dalvik initially (had a few too many beers that night maybe?).

This is a hack... When your email time switches to 12/31/00 the hack is almost complete... Apple is having the same problem... Remove any bank account information you may have on your phone... Do this now

What are you saying is a hack?

The 12/31/69 email... This is a hack, a back door to your phone via the UNIX subsystem... This is a command line entry

No, in this case, TWRP is not getting the system time from the phone correctly. So it starts off with the time variable set to 0, the Unix epoch.
