Android Question

I have a Nexus 4 with the latest stock android updates (inherited from daughter). I researched as much as possible on removing the Google Search Bar from the desktop. Installed Nova Launcher Prime and went to Persistent Search Bar settings, checked none. This worked in removing the Google search bar, but left a empty grey bar in it's place. When I re-insert Google Launch, it places OVER the grey bar which reveals 2 bars at the top. Can someone instruct me as to how to remove the grey bar when Google is removed and persistent search bar is checked? I have tried to eliminate by tapping, press and hold, but nothing works. Other suggestions?
Thank you!

Try selecting "none" and rebooting.

I don't have a Nexus but have never had a problem with just telling Nova I don't want a search bar. But if there is some glitch where the widget isn't really clearing I would guess a restart would have a good chance of fixing it.

Thank you. Tried your suggestion, but that did not work. Funny, as it is just a grey empty bar when Google search is removed.
