Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Pretty slow around here. Where did everyone go?

Edit: Never mind I see why everyone left. Pretty petty in this forum now.

Actually not any more. It was getting personal with lots of complaining about who had the real inside info and who was an impostor, etc. Now it's more discussion, info, and speculation without all the personal attacks and ego problems.

This is a big question for a lot of us. Different sources have used different wording so sometimes it sounds like new plans and other times it sounds like the prices will be the same except for the hotspot app.

Personally I don't think it would be wise to raise prices as Wimax is going to be new and they want to convert as many people over as they can. Likewise it is not available nationwide so it would be tough to charge for something you can only use sometimes.

Still, as long as they stay lower than the competition I will stick with them. I can't imagine that an Evo on Sprint will cost $30-50 more which is what I would pay if I switched my current plan to another carrier.

Per Dan Hesse at CTIA there shouldn't be a new plan, and if they try to raise the pricing or create a new plan it would make no sense at all because they

It sounds like they may rename the plan for the EVO and have the Hotspot as an option. At least I hope that is all they are doing.

Now rebranding something is A-Ok with me... the company I work for has done it a few times... Call it the EVO plan, but it shouldn't be more than an everything plan in EVO clothing (if you will) the only thing that makes it unique should be the option you speak of... I had the same feeling a week back... I've just been off of the forum here because of all the spats and the thread being closed here and there.... I decided to go back to doing my homework :D

It is MUCH better now! :)

I might check my bank account on my phone, but do we really need this? I can't believe people need a program like this in their everyday lives. I guess if you are willing to write the code someone will use it.

Makes me think of all the ridiculous ideas we could write for apps just to see if they sell.

I agree, and think it's a cool idea

but i also work for a bank and am imagining the headaches.
Stuff like this has been out for a while (but on other older smart phones (like treo and older blackberry's) it was an add on device that read the strip on the card. I know alot of mobile billiard stick repair guys/dealer who have been using stuff like this for a long time to do off-site credit card payments. I believe you still have to be registered as a merchant w/ the credit card comp. to use the older ones though and have a merchant id number/account number, dont know about this app if you do or not

it would work very well if you sell on craigslist as well, or if you run a flea market booth

So FOR SURE they are gonna announce something tomorrow at the event or is that speculation as well? just curious

technically, the latter.

I don't think Sprint will increase plan pricing for the Evo or because of the Evo. The last thing Sprint needs is a reason for people not to try to them or stay as customers. For now, Sprint's winning platforms are 1) value and 2) network reliability. Soon, Wimax will be another primary platform but not until it's use becomes as large or greater than 3G. Evo's a great tool for Sprint, but it's just the first of many advanced phones that Sprint should introduce.

There will be other advanced phones coming so I expect that Sprint is fully aware that they have to stay on track as a dependable, value carrier. Neither ATT nor VZW matched Sprints SE plans years ago when introduced because they saw themselves as better than Sprint. They also cracked the window for Sprint to focus on a winning strategy which turned out to be as simple as "don't try to be like the other big carriers."

It will take Sprint time to erase the bad memories and tales about its old service. But it can be done.

If Sprint gets strong sales of Evo through the end of this year, they'd have to consider it an epic win that sparked a financial turnaround.

Another thing that could be considered on/off topic is the Qik app. So being a newer Android user, I constantly am finding things I both like and dislike about Android in comparison to my Pre... for instance I liked how text seamed "live" on the Pre and by that I mean selectable and had options. I find myself having a hell of a time trying to select something for copy and paste... I used to simply select a number or address from a text message and do what ever... anyone know if this is going to be any better on the EVO or can reassure me that copy and paste on 2.1 is better, cause it's really weak IMO.

On to the Qik app.

Learning something new about my Hero, I saw the Qik app and decided to give it a go and was shocked that I could stream live video from my Hero, but it was so laggy on 3G that it rendered it useless. So I tried at home on my WI-FI and it wasn't much better. So what

I don't see any pro's to the app as of yet. Anyone wanna school me? Tell me why my experience should have been better:confused:

Will the faster processor make it better?

oh. Answer below. Never mind.

From the way i read it and the way they advertise in the video, anybody can do it. They might register you with one, but it still seems shady. This would also be an easy way around cash advance fees and interest rates

How do you explain my wi-fi trial?!?!

Wifi is limited by your internet connection and lots of home internet connections have sucky upstream bandwidth?

Unless you run a speed test it's hard to tell if the bottleneck was your internet connection, the processing power of the device, etc.

I understand what you're saying, it seems like several dozen people left to follow the cult of Jackson, heralded by Bishop Bill, but the good news is we don't need that sort of mentality here and there's less posts to follow!

(Just poking some fun here, don't take me seriously)

It's not surprising that the N1 isn't going to be sold by Sprint, but I do hope Sprint releases more Android phones soon......1 new phone won't be enough to win over everyone. Sprint needs to go for the more casual market as well such as Verizon did by releasing both the Droid and Droid Eris at the same time.

In particular, I've seen several non-tech minded women whom preferred the Eris to the Droid, but there is no such choice here (I know the Hero is essentially the same thing, but it could be perceived as being an old device by now)

Reading Jackson's posts. First I thought it was a bunch of BS and second his godly tone of his messages were just annoying. I don't know about everyone else but that was just my take. Also reading back to some of his posts it seems like he was just pulling info off of the net. Just my take.

It is nice to read through the thread now. I don't have to skip through all the arguing.

That being said it is sad to lose some of the people that had inside information.

I have a feeling that after tomorrow we will be discussing buying options as opposed to price and dates.

I agree, I've been saying that the whole time, but I don't care I don't need to argue, anyway he has not provided bad data, most of the stuff he said was correct because he did his research but don't know about the whole inside source.

Did anyone see that gdgt will be having an event tomorrow in Chicago with HTC as one of the guests?

gdgt live in Chicago May 12th! - gdgt

Might have Evo on display.

Yep - I bumped a thread about it, earlier this week. Was originally planning on attending, but the girlfriend's grandmother is in the hospital and won't be with us much longer.

So I'm most likely taking a pass, but a few pals in the area are most likely still going to attend. Told 'em if they do go, to be sure to find the HTC guy and steal, err, take some pictures of the Evo, if he happens to have one on hand.
