Root Can I, should I root my S5 Active

Have gotten to a point where internal memory is not enough to even do an update without removing a bunch of apps. Thanks to At&t I can't move apps to the SD card either, so I'm considering rooting since I still love the phone.
What are my options?

I am afraid that AT&T have their own firmware with a mega locked down bootloader and is unrootable.

I saw an article online that mentioned an app called Towelroot that could root ANY Samsung S5, even At&t and Verizon. Ever hear of that?

Ok, so rooting is not a possibility. Any other ideas that could help me? Or am I just a victim of planned obsolescence?

That's a shame. I really like my S5 Active but the lack of storage is a huge problem. Is it feasible to not do anymore updates? Dumping most, if not all of my apps just so I can do an update is a pain.

Just an FYI, it turns out this is a "known issue" for the S5. Had to take it to the at&t store and they got at&t service to remote program my phone. So now I’m updated to 5.1.1 and I didn’t even have to take any apps off my phone!
