Root Zenfone 2e rooting and unlocking

Hi guys,

I have recently purchased an Zenfone 2e that is locked on the AT&T network.
Now my question, is it possible to unlock this phone (or any phone for that matter) by rooting and flashing a custom ROM on it?

Not by rooting and flashing a custom ROM. But you can unlock provider by going here: https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/?#/

They will send you a code and you will need another SIM card. Once you get the code you put the other SIM card in and it will ask for the code. It takes a day or two.
