2.1 OTA Beginning 5/11/2010

I think I have installed HTC sync twice and its not working. It won't recognize my phone. I downloaded the newest version from HTC's website. I promise I am not stupid.

i honestly dont think v3 and the ota will be much different at all, i seriously doubt features will be added....regardless of what a pdf says.

i would really like friendstream, but i dont think we will get it.

I've been talking to a few people this morning via twitter and PM. Those that have received the update are saying that Pinch Zoom is not in Google maps and the Speech to text they describe is the same as what we have on the V3 leak. Nobody is seeing freindstream either.

Not to dishearten anyone, but I think that V3 and the OTA are the same thing.

Bright side:

Those with problems should be able to get replacements under warranty pretty soon. I would advice against trying it now though.

I have no doubts that you're not.

Tell me what's going on when you connect up.

Let's assume the following:
HTC Sync is installed, and you have it loaded and it comes up ok.
The USB cable is good / not faulty.

Does the phone do anything when you connect it? Does Windows even acknowledge you've connected a device?

I got it! Thanks for your help. My antivirus software was preventing me from syncing. I am all set now.

From the v3 leak:

Code:
ro.build.description=2.36.605.1 CL165907 release-keys
ro.build.changelist=165907

The number after "CL" is the "changelist". Since the OTA folks have the exact same changelist number, it should literally mean that nothing has changed in the software. From leak 1 to leak 2, it went from 134869 to 140744, and then in leak 3 it was 165907. If even one line of code was changed, it seems to me this would at least be 165908 instead.

The OTA is delivered differently from a leak or RUU. It patches only the files that need patching, using an update script, instead of replacing all of the files indiscriminately. But according to their own numbering, it should be patching those files to match exactly what's in leak v3.

This is just really odd that still no link...what the junk? Im thinkin htc/verizon got together and said lets pull a prank...lets see how long we can keep the eris owners thinking they're gonna get 2.1...its a conspiracy i tell you! :) My poor F5 button cant take much more...

If the code is the same, then a replacement wouldn't help right? You'd just be getting the same update with the same issues. That's assuming the leak and OTA are identical.

I'm waiting for my girlfriend to get the OTA so that I can compare V3 and the OTA side by side.

I look forward to hearing back from you on that comparison OTD, thanks. If the OTA and 2.1v3 are the same that's cool with me. V3 works nice on my phone. However it would be interesting to see if there are changes.:)

This is a thread for people to discuss the OTA. If you dont think its a big deal then why even click the thread and post in it?
Go read some other thread that actually interests you, and dont fill this one with your garbage.

And you yapping about it is not discussing the OTA either, just like the other persons garbage.

As far as the OTA goes, I just want it to be over so that way if I have a problem with my phone I can return it with no worries. I'm not a good liar.

AMEN! :) We are all like kids in a candy store waiting for our yummy candy! You cant tell a kid in a candy store not to be excited!

I don't know. I hold on to the theory that some phones just have issues and those that started seeing serious issues (not just bugs) like "silent calls" and others were going to have them no matter what. The leaked software just kind of woke those problems up somehow. If it was something that was in the software pure and simple then everyone would have it, right?

My girl had a lot of problems and she was on 1.5 the whole time. Her replacement works just as well as mine does. A new phone is a new phone and problems found on one may not exist on another.

My only guess is that their might be slight differences in the hardware of our phones depending on when you bought it..

So a phone with a slightly different chipset might experience different problems.. but you would think their QA and Dev teams would catch these things..

I was hoping to get rid of some issues with the update but, based on this, I may get the update and have the same problems because of my phone? That sucks!

Current problems include:
*Unlock getting stuck (I swipe but it won't unlock)
*Not answering calls (I press the button but...nothing...)
*Call drops
*Hang ups (my phone seems super sensitive to hanging up on people, not sure what does it...bumping against my ear or face or what)
*Google Maps gets stuck sometimes and won't update my directions (based on 'my location')

Could also be a defective batch of parts, where (for example) 500 phones went out with bad speakers before the QA teams found it. It's often easier just to let people return a faulty phone than do a recall. After all, we're not talking about brakes on a car or something... :-) (Did someone say Toyota?)

For those who are thinking about going to your nearest Verizon store to get a update, I just got off the phone with a friend who works at a store and he told me they do not have it as of yet. He said maybe in a few days hey might get it because of some last minute issues with the firmware.

Your friends store speaks for all Verizon stores? Seriously calling one store doesn't mean every other store has the same thing.

Well he looked in his database when he told me. I am just passing on some information as I hear it. Please don't condemn me. I'm just trying to be helpful!

You all know this always happens when the release new firmware, there are all sorts of patches..
